After such a woeful shot, Eric decides that taking care of the unkindness that is harassing him seems the better course of action. He drops his obviously out of tune bow and draws his short sword.
((Assuming we’re into round 2, and Shayne survives til his turn...))
Shayne blinks and coughs, regaining his bearings and then turns to look Alyna in the eyes. “You saved my life... You are an angel. Misguided angel for looking over me, perhaps. But truly an angel!” ((Bardic Inspiration to Alyna that Shayne never got to give before...))
“Hey, bird brain!” Shayne calls out, climbing to his feet and grabbing his flute with his free hand. “Why so cranky? No Caw-fee this morning?” And with that, Shayne casts Hideous Laughter ((Gorcrow must succeed on a Wisdom (DC 13) saving throw or fall prone, becoming incapacitated and unable to stand up for the duration.))

We're doing one small murder-y thing for a bigger, better reason. The ends justify the means.
The swarming ravens whirl about Eric, stabbing at his eyes with sharp beaks, jabbing his ears and neck and hands. The woodsman lays about with his sword, swatting birds dead at a stroke. But there are so many...
Xylys blasts the big one with a conjured arrow. The overgrown raven flaps hard, rising and wheeling in air as if to flee.
((As Blue Bayou rolled a nat 20 initiative and her PC can thus heal Shayne at the top of round 2, Shayne will be able to target the Gorcrow before it disengages and flees in round 3)).

After Shayne cracks his joke, the huge raven suddenly drops into a bramble, cawing raucously as if laughing.
Alyna was called many names in her short life but never an angel. She blushed. The giant crow, though, now ... laughing? it sure looked like it was laughing! - needed all attention right now. Unsure what to do, the girl stepped closer, raised that hoop that crows liked so much and said a few more words the fei taught her.
Sleep (trying not to catch someone from the group in it.
"You even charm the birds out of the trees," Shayne says offhandedly to Alyna and gives her a wink.
"Good job you two as well," Shayne says as he goes over to Xylys and Eric, clapping them on a shoulder and making sure they are alright. "But now? Do we kill it? Bind it? How long will it stay asleep, Alyna? We need to plan before it awakens..."

"Tie it up. A lesson leart long ago, don't take from the forrest any more than you need. This forrest especially." Eric reaches for rope from his pack. His warning hopefully landing on open ears.
Binding it is good enough for Shayne, and he will gladly help if the ranger needs it. If/when the creature is tied down Shayne would suggest binding it's beak shut as well.
"At least for now," He says with a shrug. "Until we know more of what is going on, or can convince it to be calm and... this is weird to say... talk to us?"
Would also search for the source of the smell of decay, not sure if finding the miller her would be a good thing...

"Not long at all! Like a minute I think." Alyna was quite surprised by efficiency of the charm (she rarely dared to practice it). "I think Eric is right and we should not kill them. Or anything in these woods if we can help it. "Appreciating someone else's willingness to check the source of smell (he imagination already drew colorful enough picture), Alyna volunteered to "watch the bird" - stay with the tied up crow.
Eric snares the huge raven with his rope. It wakens, flaps frantically for a short while and emits piercing cries, but then falls still and simply watches you all with large, intelligent eyes.
The lesser birds remain unseen, but not unheard, croaking as if in hushed conversation, hidden in the upper boughs of tall trees around the clearing.
A look around the clearing soon reveals the source of the rotten stink; the remains of two oxen in a depression at the far end of the open space, shaded by tall trees and hidden from the west by a tall bramble. Something with teeth has been at the meat, and the birds have taken meals from what was left. No eyes in the sockets. Ropes encircle the necks of the carcasses, one length frayed and snapped and the other line snaking across the moss to a tie-off round a tree trunk.
In the back of the wagon you find loose grain and ripped burlap sacks. It's seed wheat--but what the black-feathered bandits didn't take has already begun to grow moldy. Not any good now. The vehicle looks undamaged, if a bit dirty from bird droppings and forest litter.
You've all seen Werthan's millcart before, of course, and this vehicle looks exactly like it.
"We do not want to kill you, you understand?" Alyna was sure the raven can talk but not so sure it can understand her well enough. "You did not have to attack us too. We came to find our missing miller - that's it. If you know what happened to him, just say and we leave." She looked at the bird intently. "And we let you go too. Do you understand me?"

The bird croaks and squawks and hops about, straining at the rope tied around one leg.
"We want to leave," Shayne says in an annoyed tone. "But we need to find the miller. The one who rode this cart. Point us in the direction he went and we will 'Bee-gawwwwwwn'."

"We want to leave," Shayne says in an annoyed tone. "But we need to find the miller. The one who rode this cart. Point us in the direction he went and we will 'Bee-gawwwwwwn'."
The captive bird continues hopping about on the rope line, squawking and croaking and flapping its wings. If it truly understands the line of questioning, it gives no clear indication of such comprehension.
While others were studying the gruesome display, Alyna tried the trick she thought she knew well enough by now. The concentration needed some time (she warned other of what she was going to try) but it seemed time was all they had here: Speak with Animals . Minutes went by and when the choir of the birds around begun to sound like words, Alyna looked at the big raven again and cawed: "Oxen ... Wagon ... Grain ... Man with grain... Where?"

The Gorcrow understands the concept of a man driving a 'hollow log that rolls', but has no idea where the driver could have gone. No man was here when it arrived. The oxen were already dead. It says it was feeding nicely on seeds and flesh and thought you were here to take its food away from it. Do you want flesh? Seeds? Take! Begone. Don't hurt Gorcrow! It promises to be a 'good bird' if she lets it go. Whenever it glances at Shayne, it mutters nasty, vile curses.
OOC Of course, only Alyna understands all of this.
Alyna translated raven's words to others (not including curses but whispering to Shayne "He does not like you. May be because of the cat?") and looked at Eric "Are there any tracks away from the wagon? Why did he have to go to the forest..." She sighed and made a move to untie the rope, but paused checking with others first.
Survival roll ((Which is to be applied onlyif SinarLightwood doesn't object to my assuming the action of Eric searching for tracks. I know the player said he'd be busy soon, and this one looks like a safe assumption to keep play moving. ))
