The adventure hasn't started yet. But I think there maybe something we can discuss before it begins.
Will we start our adventure as total stranger and getting know each other through role playing? Or we arrive at Drinking Castle tavern as established team? The former one sounds fun. And second one will accelerate game progress. Please tell me which way you guys prefer!
I was kind of assuming the former, based on our backgrounds and what the DM has said. Plus, it's always fun to have characters meet and make first impressions. But I'm happy to go with either!
Yeah, I always think it’s fun to have some established links beforehand, brings everyone into a living world a bit. It’s sometimes a little cumbersome trying to get six strangers in a tavern talking to each other. I normally like it if at least a few have heard of each other or something, depending on background. My character is from the area and it’s a small town.
Yes, I prefer a shared background to the total stranger thing. I think the locals would know of each other, though, what with the DM said of the dynamic to be explored, I wonder if the elves and humans would be friends, or competing?
That's true, having some relations already can definitely make things easier. My character isn't a local and had a pretty secluded upbringing, so she probably wouldn't know anybody super well. She could have met somebody while she was travelling to the town and they realized they were going to the same place?
Sylfaerd is ex-military, used to be in the Alliance Guard, but wasn’t thrilled with their methods. He could have met you while traveling, perhaps riding in the same wagon, struck up a conversation and found out where you were headed.
Idk, if it’s not natural from your background I wouldn’t force the whole, they met on their travels thing. It’s more if it comes naturally.
For example for me, I think Vahorn might have met Noell when he was younger as her mother was a friend of the elves in the area. He could have been in the training sessions with her and had a bit of a rivalry. Upon meeting in the tavern they might be surprised to see how each has grown and a little competitive in the archery department, looking down on her a bit for being human.
Also, for Sylfaerd, Vahorn could have seen him about as a guard before and sees him as a figure of the establishment.
Shura, Vahorn might not know her but may know of her family
If Sylfaerd is ex-military, he may have at least heard of the order Lia's part of, if not worked with some of its members. They're regularly hired by government/military organizations. Anyone from a more central location or larger city might have as well.
I don't know if Greysun would know the other characters. There's a possibility they could have met somewhere in passing, I suppose. He grew up on a farm down river and not necessarily that close to our starting point, and didn't really travel much, maybe to a couple nearby towns to deliver food to market or something like that. Then a couple years back he entered the church, where he has been training. Based on the adventure description, I figured the church was dispatching Greysun for his first real test as a warrior-priest-adventurer and that he would meet the others at some sort of briefing from an NPC.
Re. the joke...the cleric looks to the sky, reading patterns in the clouds, which look oddly like a giant black sphere with the number 8 on it. "Ask again later," he says.
I think I would enjoy that dynamic, by the way. A competitive friendship with Vahorn.. they could be joining the mayor's quest not only to support the town but do that gimli and legolas "I shot one more than you!" thing. XD
Punchline: "... but the Halfling Thief walks under it."
Hey, sorry to be a bother but just checking - are we still going to play? I really like the group we have and the story premise, and I'd be excited to finally get started if the DM is ready.

Yeah, it's probably best not to force it.

Ok, a Paladin, a Rogue, a Fighter, a Monk, a Cleric and a Ranger walk into a bar. .... what's the punchline? Hmmmm....
I know! The Paladin turns to the others and says "Are we going to go on an adventure or what?"

oh I got another punchline
"The bartender says 'why'd you come in here with your weapons?"
"Mimics!" the party says.
The bartender laughs.
The party laughs.
The table laughs...
Yeah, will be a fun dynamic!
