Ben, you get no response from the downed carriage. As you get closer, you get a better view of the apparent broken statues. They seem to be human statues and you see a foot, an arm, and part of what you think is a leg.
Ess also takes a peek into this situation, taking a better look at things but not getting too close. 14 and he sees the same thing as Ben.
Korrik, the statue piece (it is just statue body pieces that you see on the ground. The statues seem to be broken) doesn't move when you poke it other than the normal movement that would happen if you tried to poke something small-ish with a staff.
Korrik, as you rap on the carriage, you hear a deep, almost vibrating growl and hissing coming from the inside of the carriage.
"Ummmmm..."Ess's eyes widen as he takes his shortbow off his back and points it at the carriage. "DAFUQ was that?"
Busren heard the growl, too.
Busren, you get no sense that anyone else is around right now. Traffic likely will be passing using the road over the next little while though. Likely, anyway. (beyond the road are plains and then the sea to the west, and then the neverwinter wood forest line to the east. They are pretty far away though. The sea and the forest.)
Ben, you have no clue what it could be based on the growl and hissing. All you get is that whatever it is, it is not happy. The carriage looks like a regular carriage so far from what you can see. It's tipped over, and it has a roof. You cannot see inside currently.
Ess isn't even going to roll the nature check as he would not know what this is whatsoever based on the noises. He would step back, take an arrow from his new quiver, load his bow and pull it back ready to shoot. He is nervous. "Honestly what the HELL is in there guys?"
((Does it look like a nice carriage or just a functional one?))
"Hmm. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem very happy. Maybe it is just a badger or something that crawled in after it tipped and can't get out, though that wouldn't explain the missing people and horses. Unless it was an exceedingly upset badger. You going to stick your head in there and look Korrik?"
It looks like an average carriage. Nothing fancy, although definitely functionable. This is along the lines of what the carriage looks like, minus all of it's contents, etc. This is just to give you a general idea of what it looks like. The front of the carriage is covered and blocked with various crates and cloths right now, so you can't see in that way. There is indeed a window on the side which is facing upwards.
Korrik, please make a perception check to determine how much you can see as you warily peek through that window.
Also, the more you guys talk, the louder the growls and hisses get. The carriage is also starting to just slightly shake and move, and you can clearly hear something rustling around in there now.
"Shoot guys it's getting mad!" Ess closes his eye and takes aim waiting for something to come out of the carriage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
For Korrik:
The window does not have any curtains, it is very clean and you can clearly see what's inside. You see an almost empty carriage except for a few crates strewn about and an open cage. Oh, and the beast shown below. It is also looking directly up at you, and your eyes meet.
Please make a CON save. There are rules about players being able to 'look away', similar to a medusa, but in this case, Korrik is specifically trying to look inside the carriage. It wouldn't really make sense for Korrik to be able to look away at this moment when he is trying to actively look in there.
Everyone, please roll for initiative.
Carriage contents initiative: 18
Ess: 7
Korrik, this moment of initiative will take place immediately AFTER your saving throw that you need to make.

"You want to go check this out Korrik?"
He pulls out and readies his crossbow.
"Sure."
Korrik swings down off of Horse and circles the wagon, then prods the statue with his staff.

"Statue vendors? But where'd they go?"

There are no horses around other than yours.
Busren hops down from his horse and walks over to examine the ground around the sides of the carriage for signs of what could have happened.
"What do you think gentlemen? Leave it and move on? Smells like trap."
Survival: 4
Ben, from the ground beside the carriage, you don't get a sense whatsoever as to what could've happened here other than a carriage tipped over.
Ess would also now hop off his horse, and also get a bit closer to the carriage to see if he can see any tracks.
"Here, lemme take a quick look guys." Survival 3
"It's weird guys... it's like the carriage dropped from the sky because from what I can see there are no tracks anywhere."
"I mean....... it wouldn't hurt to take a quick peek in the carriage, no?"
Unknown perception: 13
"Might as well! Hellooooo! Anyone home?"
Korrik approaches an opening to the wagon, rapping on it with his staff like he's greeting someone at their front door.

"Yes, it almost looks like it did come from no where, which is also concerning."
Busren will take a step back to be near the horses, scanning the sides of the road (edges of the forest or whatever is beyond the road) for movement.

"That doesn't sound promising. Is that a cage rather than a carriage?"
He shifts his attention and crossbow to the carriage.

((Does it have a side window on the now upward facing side? If so, Korrik will pop up and take a wary peek, staff at the ready.))

((Looks an awful lot like a carriage my PCs blew up in Strahd...))
"Easy now Ess, let's not be shooting Korrik because we're jumpy."
He does take a step back with horses though.
