"Are you sure? I have been looking at it the entire time and I feel fine."
He shoots the thing again.
Attack: 18 Damage: 3
"See! No problems. Still there are those statue bits..."
He then moves up as far as he needs to so Korrik can really hear him yell,
"Come on now! Let's kill this thing and see whats inside the carriage."
Which provides bardic inspiration.
He does try to keep the tipped carriage between him and the thing as he moves up and definitely is keeping his eyes on Ess rather than on the thing hoping the former rat man will let him know if the thing is coming after him.
Korrik, this time you chuck the dart wide, but are able to resist the strange feeling that you had going on inside your body after you locked eyes with the lizard. You are no longer restrained, but if you look at it again and it looks at you if it's within 30 feet of you, you will have to roll the CON save again.
Ben, you're deadly accurate with that crossbow. The bolt sinks in again deep into the creature and more blood spills onto the ground around the broken statues.
The lizard, bleeding quite badly decides to charge at the closest threat it can see, which is Korrik. This attack is with advantage, because Korrik is not looking at the thing and from what I found is considered blind because of that for that attack. The creature bites at Korrik! Attack: 24 Damage: 7 + 12 poison damage.
The bite is brutal. The poison is worse. The teeth shred Korrik and the poison puts him down on the ground, unconscious.
Ess freaks out. "FOOOORRRKKK!!! GOD NO KAY!!!" and he lets an arrow loose, still not looking at the thing. Attack: 5 Damage: 4 and the arrow sails really wide.
Next Round: Ben, Kay, Liz, Ess
Ben is up, Kay can make a death save if not revived by Ben
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kay comes to with a groan.
"Forking not-crocs!"
He stands, and keeping his eyes closed reaches his senses and his staff out... he can almost feel where the creature is casting a shadow... it should be right.... THERE!
"Kiiiyaiii!"
Korrik lashes out in a flurry of staff and halfling strikes.
Staff Attack: 14 Damage: 6
Foot Attack: 10 Damage: 4
Headbutt Attack: 10 Damage: 4
((Bardic Inspiration on the headbutt, why not... 2... Brings that to 15 to hit, for 4 forehead damage.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Korrik, the healing energies from Ben's word flow through your body! Ben, the crossbow bolt sticks again into the bleeding creature, and then at the same moment, Korrik lashes out a brutal barrage of attacks. The initial staff blow smashes the creature in the back, and it hurts it. You miss with the kick, but then come back with your head as you actually headbutt the thing!! You have a skull of rock as the creature reels from the strike. You get a sense even not looking at it that it is on it's last legs. (-13 total)
The creature tries again to bite at Korrik, this time trying to keep the halfling down for good. Attack: 24 Damage: 9 + 8 poison damage. And the creature is relentless, just ripping Korrik's body up as he goes down again.
Ess I think now would clue in that he can back up a similar distance as Ben and be able to look at it as he shoots without it doing funky stuff. He does just that. "GOD DAMN MAN, NOT AGAIN!"Attack: 8 Damage: 4 and the arrow lands deep. The creature wavers, but does not fall.
Next Round: Ben, Kay, Liz, Ess
Ben is up, Kay can make a death save if not revived by Ben
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Korrik bellows from flat on his back driving his staff upward as he kicks, scrabbles, bites upward at the thing, fighting for his life and trying anything that will work!
Staff Attack: 24 Damage: 11
Unarmed Strike Attack: 20 Damage: 7
Unarmed Strike Attack: 7 Damage: 7
((Korrik was at 4 before that last bite, if it had done 2 more damage to him on its attack it would have brought him to 0 with 15 damage remaining (his max HP), and he would have been dead outright! Yikes!))
Ben, your crossbolt hits the creature's head this time, sticking its brain and killing it instantly. It slams down to the ground with a pool of blood slowly getting bigger around it.
Your healing energies also once again flow throw Korrik as he comes back to the world.
Korrik, I think that you would continue to make those attacks on the dead creature not knowing right away that the thing is already dead. Or maybe you did and wanted to make sure it was good and dead. Either way, that's exactly what it is. Good and dead.
Ess continues to hold his bow at the ready. "Kay! Are you... O kay?! Is it dead!"
Combat is over. There is the carriage, the broken 'statues' around the carriage and the dead creature that almost turned Korrik to stone. Your horses are a bit spooked, but are still around.
What would you like to do?
((Yep, I also noticed that... it was almost the end for him! Nasty bite for sure.))
Kay surges to his feet, eyes screwed shut and lays about him with his staff. *whap*whack*
He keeps at it until someone tells him it is, in fact, dead. Then he'll crack an eye cautiously to verify, then flop back on the grass to catch his breath.
"Owwwwww. Let's stick to crocs, hey boys?"
He shivers, rolls over and vomits a bit as his body fights off the last of the toxin from its bite.
Ben watches the beating of the dead thing with interest.
"You got it Korrik. You look... not good."
He nudges the dead thing with his foot.
"Think it's got any parts that would be worth something to someone? Maybe the eyes? Or the horns and claws? Probably should check it's gut like we did the crocs."
He glances over at Korrik puking then to the wagon,
"Okay, take your time there then you can cut that thing up and I'll check the wagon. You with me Ess? Maybe we can right it and hook up the horses..."
Investigation (?) of wagon for valuables/identification of who it's owners were: 10
Then inspection of the carriage to see if it is in good enough condition to be worth trying to right: 5
Time allowing he'll ritually cast detect magic by playing an upbeat jig.
((Not sure what to roll for the inspection so it's just a flat d20))
Korrik scratches his jaw. "Yeah, that makes sense. I also feel not good."
After he rests for a bit, he'll haul himself back up and go check on the lizard, collecting the party's projectiles.
He ponders whether something toxic like this would have usable meat or other parts, or if it would be nothing more than a trophy as a curiosity. 11 (Has +0 to INT checks, but if cook proficiency would apply, that's a +2)
Ben, you and Ess take a look at the carriage. Ess also takes a gander inside to make more sense of this. 1. Ess has no clue... Ben, you see a large cage in the carriage and a few crates. From this and the amount of broken statues on the ground along with your roll, you can deduce that 2 people had this creature in captivity, but nothing more. Something must've gone terribly wrong for the people and they were turned to stone, and the carriage crashed. The horses escaped the harnesses and took off.
No roll needed for the carriage - it looks like it would still function if it was turned back over.
Ess to Kay"Oh god... yeah get it all out, bro. Hey, thanks for grabbing my arrows, man.(half returned) "I'm glad you're ok. Thought you were gonna be stoned there for a sec. And not in a good way. hahaha!" he makes a dumb joke to take the attention off the fact that he was truly scared for Kay.
Korrik, you don't get a good sense whether the meat would be good for cooking and/or eating or not, nor do you know if any of the parts of this thing might be usable. I mean, you assume that meat is... edible meat, and that maybe the poison within could be processed, but you aren't sure. With those rolls, I'm not sure you'd even know how to harvest anything useful in the carcass even if you knew there was something in there to take. I think you'd know how to get some cuts of meat, though. Will you do that now?
Ess nods and says to Ben"Dude... you think we can turn this thing over and pull it to Marshswamp? Hell maybe one of us can even sleep in the thing tonight! Wanna try and flip it over?"
Ess STR: 14 (he has Athletics +2 but I'm not convinced this is athletics.)
Oops, Ess likely would've just helped Ben, so why don't you go ahead and make the STR roll with advantage.
((ok I was thinking... this thing is 600 lbs. Characters can lift 30 x their STR. If all 3 of you try and flip it back over, you would be able to without any rolls. So forget all of that. If you guys want to flip the thing, then so be it.))
((I think we are going to flip it back up, no reason not to. Spider?
How many horses did this thing have? Will our two be enough to handle it?))
"Well looks like a couple of folks had this thing caged up and it managed to get out and turn them in rock. We should gather their bits up and take that thing's corpse with us in case folks recognize the carriage and think we did them in."
He checks the crates in the carriage then walks to Korrik and asks,
"It eat anything interesting?"
Once the cart is righted he will cast detect magic ritually while he asks Ess,
"Ess, can you get the horses rigged? I'm going to see if anything here is magical."
"Ugh. Not a good way to go. I've no idea if this thing is good to eat, and honestly, I'm not all that interested in testing it to find out. Good point about gathering the remains, I think we toss Grumpy here in the cart too. Proves we took care of the problem, if nothing else. Maybe whoever they work for will want it stuffed and mounted or something."
Korrik will help right the cart, propping and pushing it with his staff when it gets out of his reach.
He will scour the grass for bits of stone, placing them in the back of the wagon.
"I've got most of two right hands here... but there's not enough total to make up two folks... I think the rest is ah... inside our friend. I'm not sure I'm wanting to gut him and have to deal with that right now... load it all up and find out where it came from? Unless you pick up magic in its guts, I guess..."
((Did it seem the cart was headed to or from Swampmarsh?))

The carriage had 2 horses, and yours should be strong enough to pull this carriage.
Ben, in the crates you'd find some type of feed, likely for the dead creature (no wonder it was hungry), some blankets and some type of thick wood chips for bedding.
Ben, you get no mental pings back with your detect magic.
Ess also helps with the carriage. He agrees with the plan to bring everything along including the carcass and the body parts although that creeps him out. "To think man you almost suffered the same fate as those poor bastords. Sure glad you didn't, pal." he smiles at Korrik and also helps prepping the carriage and horses. "Hey guys, I like this bow. I think if I get more practice with it I'll really be able to mess things up. Ben, you were deadly with that there crossbow."
The carriage looked like it was headed north from all of the investigations and survival rolls we've done previously. Who knows where.
Ok, so the horses are set up to pull the carriage. You guys can ride in it, or on the horses if you want. (I think? I am not a horse expert but I assume you could still ride the horse as it pulls something?)
However, we will need animal handling checks this time I think for the horses. It will be an easy DC, but there is a chance the horses just won't want to pull this carriage. There is still a few hours in this leg before camp time. Ben please make that check for Swiftwind.
Let me know if I missed anything and if there's anything else before we continue south.
Ess animal handling for Betty: 16 and Betty is totally down to pull!!

"No magic that I can feel. I'm surprised these two didn't have any money at all on them... It's either in our bitey friend there or they hid it well inside our new carriage! We'll need to give it a through going over."
As they are prepping he'll respond to Ess,
"You got a few good shots in yourself. I have had a bit of practice with a crossbow in my younger days. Something must have stuck."
Then to Korrik in a light tone,
"I'm also glad you didn't get turned to stone or eaten, or both! Though you did spend a surprising amount of time on the ground. Perhaps we should get you a bit of armor? That layer of horse sweat and dust you've built up doesn't provide much protection!"
He will put the people bits into one of the crates and the dead lizard somewhere out of the way.
As they begin heading south he says to Korrik,
"Get some rest in the back there, I'll play something relaxing to help you feel better."
"Are you sure? I have been looking at it the entire time and I feel fine."
He shoots the thing again.
