I’m currently playing in several PBPs, but none so active I could not commit to another. I am unfamiliar with the setting, however, if this would preclude my joining?

It's a (very good) book series, if you're interested.

I have been a prolific reader of books, at times, but now is not really one of them. Mostly just read with my ten year old son, now. I’ll pick up the first one and see if he gets into it. He is not reading books of that length by himself yet. He is enjoying Fart Quest right now...
Inflictor, Vociferator, possibly both? Or maybe Guster.
I am not certain of heritage or guardians, beyond foster family in backstory below.
Backstory:
Gill grew up in a small rural community in Pendleton County, West Virginia. He was home-schooled by his parents, who ran a small climbing shop and guide service. He learned what he needed to, but he was truly gifted at his physical and outdoor pursuits.
He spent his childhood and adolescence exploring the many crags and caves the region was so rich in. He was not so much interested in the hows and whys of the natural world around him, so much as the pure, physical joy he found while conquering a particularly difficult boulder, gaining a remote summit, wriggling through a virgin cave passage.
His mother was an accomplished martial artist and monastic, making annual retreats to the nearby forest monastery of the Bhāvanā Society. Gill proved to be a capable learner in these arts, as well. The moving meditation of Tai Chi appealed to him in much the same way rock climbing did, focusing only on the moment, blocking out the outside world. His movements and spirit shouts, whether executing a difficult climbing move, or performing a strenuous martial arts sequence, often seem to carry an almost mystical force behind them.
Because he had explored his home territory so extensively, his whole young life, he was permitted to join in some local expeditions that would normally be reserved for the adults. He always joined the SAR team when someone was in trouble, or missing in the endless Monongahela National Forest. Gill also joined in some caving surveys, and picked up mapping skills both above-ground and in the subterranean world.

Most likely Inflictor won't be allowed, but I'm not the DM. It's just really powerful compared to all the others. You're going to need to pick a subclass on the character linked.
Did you read the book through, or just the wiki? Either way, welcome to the series!
Inflictor would be allowed, but the spell list would be very limited as there aren’t many that would fit. Five hours to starting! We have 3 (4)? so far

Three, I think. Tasha's Mind Whip might be good for an inflictor.

Just read through the wiki a bit, so far. Looks like a good series! I am going to pick up the first book this weekend. Hopefully I can get my son interested in it. At his age, I was reading Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Joel Rosenberg, Piers Anthony, Marion Zimmer Bradley... but I am not sure he will commit to a book of this length.
To be honest, the D&D books are the first things he is truly excited to read on his own, so he got a bunch for Christmas. He is my DM now- we are learning 5e together (I come from a distant 2e background). He is not new to RPGs, though; we have played Mouse Guard and Star Wars previously, and the D&D beginner set.
I wasn’t sure if I should choose a path yet, and am open to suggestions. As for feats, I liked Inflictor, without realizing it might be pretty exclusive. I also really like Vociferator, thematically, because I think it would go well with spirit shouts, kiyai. Guster could also be a good fit. I am open to suggestions here, as well as DM adjudication. I’m not sure if we will end up with multiple abilities, or only one.
As for starting in a few hours... just to be clear, this is a PBP, not a game to be run during a specific block of time? (edit to add: I am excited to play in a game where the expected post rate is twice each day, especially if everyone keeps up with it- just can’t usually dedicate large slots of time to it).

I was thinking probably either Canada or northern US. I'll edit my post.
