Glad they added that.
I bought the digital book on the D&D Beyond website using my iPad. When I went to checkout, I noticed there was a checkbox that appeared to be pre-selected as a “gift” option. I tried several times to uncheck it, but I couldn’t. After completing the purchase, the book wasn’t added to my book collection like my previous purchases. I checked my profile and confirmed that the transaction had gone through. Then I noticed a “Gifts” tab in my account, and the book was listed there as a gift. When I clicked on it, it took me to a page with a barcode (or something similar, I don’t remember exactly). I used my phone to scan the QR code, followed the login process on D&D Beyond, and that did the trick, the book was finally added to my library.
I do not see how to add the Big Game Hunter subclass to my Ranger.

Did you purchase the book yourself? If so, is it listed on that same page under Current Product Licenses?
If the book is shared with you instead, is this character assigned to the campaign that's sharing it?
Do you have Paleo Games enabled for that character?
Did you select the 5.5e Ranger, and not the 5e one?
