So of the High Elf factions (Sun Elves and Moon Elves) it seems that Sun Elves are the real stick up ones and the Moon Elves are the more easygoing ones. But has there been a case of a Moon Elf turning bad - or at least being ultra selfish and doing his/her own thing? Alternatively, what reasons would there be for an Elf to turn away from the path of good without sounding like a rip off version of a Drow?
Trauma, sociopathy, lack of friendship, greed, anger... In short, anything that could make a human turn "evil".

All stars fade. Some stars forever fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homebrew (Mostly Outdated):Magic Items,Monsters,Spells,Subclasses ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there was no light, people wouldn't fear the dark.
The background doesn't need to be a single Moon Elf gone bad. Going 'bad' isn't the only option to making a Moon Elf into 'bad'.
Wars can begin with misunderstandings, and the reasons behind a long-standing war can be forgotten, but the war will still rage onward. The single Moon Elf could be a product of such a war - a war that's now tradition more than anything tangible. It's difficult to stop such fighting when there is nothing to resolve - no known reason to fighting. Invented slights for the mere existence of something and namecalling have no foundation upon which to find common ground.
This also sets the stage for a lot of character growth - even for NPCs or both PCs and NPCs. It's not always only about the players.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
Thank you once again, most appreciated for the replies.
As a side note - I don’t really wanna start a whole new thread for this question - relating to actual evil elves: the Drow, is it possible for a Drow to pay homage to more than one of the Drow gods? For example can a Drow pay homage to Lolth in her aspect of a cruel society to ensure that only the strongest survive, whilst also paying homage to Vhaeraun as his aspect of wanting to reclaim the high elf surface world and enslave the high elves?

Eilistraee would be more forgiving though not totally on board with it. I think her teachings would caution against the tension between her and her family that could affect the polytheistic faithful person negatively. She favors devotion by choice, though, and not by obedience.

Many thanks.
Yes. Elves are not exclusively lawful stupid. They're just humans with longer life spans.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)

Awesome! Cheers for the replies 😊
Sometimes the death of a loved one can cause an elf to turn to the dark side, often as a means of getting revenge.

Yes, although Lolth probably wouldn't like it.

Vhaeraun wouldn't like it, either.
