"no one is suggesting that you can be Half-Dwarf, Half-Aarakocra, or Half-Lizardfolk, Half-Gnome, especially because the discussion wasn't really about half-races in the first place"
Half-dwarves existed since the early days of dragon magazine, there's at least one half-lizarfolk / half-dragonborn in Eberron, and Gnome/halflings came out of second edition. As to half-Aarakocra, there was an implied Aarakocra/Kenku population in 3rd edition, though exactly what the Kenku were back then doesn't match up with what they are in 5th. Then you have the Darrow, who used to be a dwarf/elf people, but in 5th are called 'dwarf-kin'. They talk about the goblinoids and elves diverging in the past, and earlier editions talked about female hobgoblins being confused with elves. It seems like there's precedent all around.

I meant specifically a character that was 50% Dwarf and50% Aarakocra, not just a Mul or Half-Aarakocra (the same applies to me listing a Half-Lizardfolk, Half-Gnome. Gnome-Lizardfolk Hybrid, not just a Half-Gnome or Half-Lizardfolk), to illustrate that there are definitely races that should not be capable of naturally breeding with each other. In my games, Lizardfolk, Kobolds, and Dragonborn can all interbreed, and so can the birdfolk (Owlfolk, Aarakocra, Kenku).

Ok, so you've essentially created something like clades. Nothing wrong with that interpretation specifically, though a case could be made for Dragonborn breaking that structure; They came from a combination of races, including humans. No reason that has to be that way in the background of your world. Similarly, we've only seen Gnome/dragonborn come about through magic, with the same going for kobolds being born to lizardfolk who used to be humans (Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved).
In my family's setting you have gnome/dragonborn (Wykries) and dragonborn/lizardfolk (Solders) and halfling/trolls (Vogers) as established peoples. None of these distinctions are universal.
