So there was a big project on Reddit to make a bunch of new lore for every monster in the MM. They completed that project some time last year. Me and a bunch of other fine blokes got to work in the homebrewery and did it up as a 381 page PDF. Have fun!
"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

Absolutely! I remember a time when I was genuinely afraid of people finding out I played D&D. Last year, my 11-year-old cousin started an open-table D&D group at his school. The world and hobby have certainly changed for the better, and I think the massive attractiveness of the latest edition has played an important role in that.

That and Stranger Things TBH. just say you played before it was "cool and hip" and you instantly gain in "status" too.

The thing for me is that I was never afraid to tell people I played the game. When I got into this hobby in 2004-2005 I was bad off. I was far away from home getting into more trouble than I could handle. I was kind of a thug. I did a lot of drugs, lots of partying and just a-holery all aorund. I've never been afraid to be myself. So, when I started playing some people would try to give me a hard time and I would squash it real quick. Now, older gamers have informed me it wasn't that easy in the 80's and 90's. It was a different time, I guess. I never saw myself as a geek growing up or even until early adulthood, but when I got bit by the bug it bit me HARD. I'm not saying D&D saved my life or anything, but it made me a better person and a better adult.
Now, I'm the biggest geek I know. I embraced it back then and now captain the ship. It is amazing how far this game has come and all the lives it has touched. I do agree, this edition has made it...idk, seem cool? Which is freaking awesome! I have always thought it was cool, from my first d20 roll I was addicted and knew I couldn't go back. I wholeheartedly embrace this generation of new gamers, give it to them easy because there are those who came before us that had to march on through all the ridicule and pain. I play for myself, but I play for them too.

I... am not sure! Haven't spoken to any of them since! It certainly seems like the kind of thing they'd be doing, though. The community sure wasn't losing steam last time I took a browse! I could go ask famoushippopotamus if he's running a new project for Volo's. If they are, I don't think I'll compile it again, it is an unbelievable time sink, and like I said, the homebrewery starts to go insane after about 218 pages.
Edit: okidoki, I fired off a message to the instigator guy. We'll see if he has the time to talk back!
Haha maybe this time they can make it in the homebrewery from the get go this time and export it in chunks before combining!
youve done an amazing job!! I know all about time sinks though, I've nearly finished cryrids onenote reference (basically this, but offline, and you can edit whatever you want!)
well we haven't had any plans to do it specifically, but the Ecology Project was recently opened to any official 5e source material, and we've had a few come through. I'll discuss this with the mods but my fear is people might be burned out on it, since the original project took 18 months to complete.
I don't know D&D Beyond, I'll take a look!
And there's the response! So, there isn't a separate project, they just opened up the scope of the original thing. If anyone wanted a second PDF covering Volo's Guide, there would need to be an effort to encourage, support, and collect any additional ecology creations.
I used this last night... I am running Storm King's Thunder and my party was going against some Stone Giants. It helped out. I can't wait to use it some more in the future. Thank you so much for posting this!!! :)

Got this made into a hardcover book over at drivethrurpg.com! Took a bit of illustrator and acrobat work to get it all in the right format but turned out great. Another easier solution would be lulu.com.

Oh, for anyone who is unaware of the homebrewery, that's here:

Super useful online utility... gets a little unwieldy after 200 pages or so though.

This is one of the best things I've ever seen. Kudos to all of the contributors. It really has gotten the gears turning inside my head. Thanks.

Lots of fan activity. This is a great time to be into D&D!

And I've just found a new sub to subscribe to. Cheers!
The info is awesome, btw. Will bring so much added depth and colour to campaigns.

Or nature check for the more wild things!
I combined the lore in this with the lore in Volo's to write the backstory for my first Hobgoblin character. It wasn't even incompatible!

Now to go search to see if they've done the same treatment with the extra volo's monsters!!
