So I run a foolish campagin, with usually, 4/5 players who are now lvl 8. I spelljammer and DnD-ify plots from tv shows & movies. They have done a Dr Who episode, Miss Congeniality, a series of Love Island, a Game of Gnomes(Thrones) and now, I'm looking for a Night in the Museum. I'm looking for a creature or boss monster which can animate or bring to life the objects within the musem...not so much reanimate the dead, does anyone know of any creatures with those sorts of abilities or lair actions? I've been trawling through the monsters but suggling! Any help would be wonderful :)
A bunch of poltergiests would probably do the trick, they are listed in the monster manual as a variant of the spectre and then you can throw in some animated objects such as animated armours, flying weapons and rugs of smothering plus the Animate Objects spell as a lair action.

* Need a character idea? Search for "Rob76's Unused" in the Story and Lore section.
Thanks. The idea is that it is a combination of animated objects, and its the big bad which is animating them, rather than them hurling the objects, but maybe I could (if Poltergeists are spectres) adapt ghosts in some way which they can onlt possess objects maybe? I didn't know if there was a creature that had animate objects or telekenisis like abilities as regional effects or somthing :)
If it's night Night At the Museum themed, then you need to have a T-Rex; the King of Feathers from Tomb of Annihilation could be a good base for a magical animated T- Rex boss.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
you could use stone cursed as statues cursed to kill anyone who comes into the museum. or maybe a group of eidolon guarding an artifact important to the gods. maybe even deathlocks, there underused and can be dangerous in large groups.
Thanks - I've got some of the things which have been animated via living spells, undead and constructs. I like the idea that is an object which is doing it. Gives more freedom. Just need to sus-out its origin and I'm thinking a fey wild trickstery thing
