Okay, so I’m the DM Coordinator at my local gaming store, and there has been a lot of interest in starting back up with Adventurers League. I’ve got plenty of DMs who are interested and ready to start, but the problem is that I’m not well-versed in it.
I know the general basics—or at least I thought I did—but now they’re changing a lot of things, and I’m having trouble finding clear information on what exactly is being changed and how. It honestly seems extremely unorganized by the people who run it, and the information just isn’t easy to find.
I’m not sure if I’m just looking in the wrong places or doing something wrong, but I’m not finding what I need. The information I have found says that we’re fixing to transition from the Season of Spelljammer into the Season of Horror, followed by the Season of Magic and then the Season of the Champions. That part seems fairly consistent across sources.
The problem is that the modules listed for the Season of Horror haven’t even been released yet and apparently won’t be released until the end of the season—which kind of defeats the purpose, right?
I also own all of the original 5.0 seasons that have been run. Do we just keep running those, but possibly modify them for 5.5?
So I guess my main question is: what is everybody running right now? Since things seem so unorganized and the new modules aren’t out yet, what are we actually supposed to be doing? Do we just not run AL until the new content is released? Does anyone else see where my confusion is coming from?
On top of that, I’m being told that players from 5.0 AL have to convert their characters over to 5.5, and that they’re being given 60 days to do so—but 60 days starting when?
There’s so much information floating around, but I can’t really verify any of it or find solid sources explaining what’s actually going on.
Could someone please help me figure this out? I hate feeling stupid with this kind of thing.
Just modify monsters to be 5.5 friendly, use the latest stat blocks and spells.
It seems that its store dependent on who is running what. Some still running AL or some other local system. There are like 10 competing organized play systems atm.
Biggest ones I know of are Legends of Greyhawk (Convention based), Wardens of the Eastern Marches (Convention based), Gygax Society (Convention based). Most publishers have their own and some smaller regional ones exist.
D&D Encounters was announced for June and I see some stores already advertising. I am told that AL since community run isnt going anywhere anytime soon and may run alongside encounters, but I will let the important people speak to that.
All characters were supposed to be converted 60 days from last rule change which was in 11/2025. So thats past.
