DDB - Scrolls as treasure - Am I doing something wrong?
Because honestly currently I find it's a fiddly mess... I'm either creating a custom Homebrew item for each and every spell at a particular spell DC or I'm copying a generic scroll level in the inventory of a character and just editing the name... which had the rather big disadvantage of not linking to the spells description.... sigh
please tell me I'm stupid and there is a really obvious solution I've been overlooking?
thanks for any thoughts replies

“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt, It lies behind stars and under hills, And empty holes it fills, It comes first and follows after, Ends life, kills laughter.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit, or There and Back Again
I created a homebrew for each spell in a scroll too.
I tried searching homebrew AUTHOR for you but got... A User must be selected or the field must be clear guess it's a matter of finding and adding someone else's homebrew scrolls for each spell, Thanks though
Edit Ok I remember now why that doesn't seem to work... I think because published homebrew can't have links? so you can't add some ones homebrew scroll that links to a spell description ie stoneskin
I don't know but can't help feeling DDB is missing a trick here I mean it's all about ease of use and taking the fiddly bits out of roleplay and this feels so unnecessarily fiddly
Edit I really don't get it I made a shatter scroll level 5 and it adds the spell description but if I do it for a Fireball it doesn't...
Uff ok I think figured out why the spell description doesn't always appear... the level 5 shatter description appears wile the level 5 Fireball doesn't because I'm looking at it in the in the inventory of a Sorcerer Red Dragon linage with an Elemental Adept (Fire)... the same scroll in a life clerics inventory has the description of course all the cure wounds scrolls above 1st level lose there spell descriptions as there is probably some interaction between the clerics Disciple of LifePHB, pg. 60 Whenever you use a spell of 1st level or higher to restore HP, the creature regains additional HP equal to 2 + the spell’s level.

When you enter in a username as the author, you have to wait for the little wheel to stop spinning and click the name in the dropdown before you can run the search.
You can totally publish homebrews that use tooltips like stoneskin, just not links like stoneskin. That’s precisely what tooltips are good for.

yeah thanks again, unfortunately the tooltips like stoneskin, nore links like stoneskin. display in the character item inventory think it's a matter of copying the entire spell description into the Basic Information Description form alas it doesn't like dark mode and I do rather like dark mode...
really very good to know that tooltips aren't the hang up to publishing and that I should be a little more patient when pasting names into the Author field :o

Tooltips don’t work on character sheets, but hyperlinks will. The thing is they don’t look like hyperlinks anymore. If you read the bottom section of that post I linked for you I gave instructions on how to make the hyperlink more visible on the sheet.

morning ah thanks for pointing that out, you wouldn't happen to have tip how to get a copy pasted spell stat block to display correctly in dark mode?

Nope, sorry. You could try photographing the spell in dark mode and embedding the image instead of the statblock. 🤷♂️ I don’t e head the statblock, I just create them as scrolls and then convert them into wondrous items so they can cast the spell directly from their character sheet. Follow the links at the bottom of that post I linked for you for more info. (I really did put everything you need in that post.)

I gave a full tutorial on how to create spell scrolls in this post: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback/5828-spell-scrolls-in-inventory?comment=28), I hope it helps.
