So one of my players had foolishly read a trapped book (3 times, did not get the "Do not touch this" hints the first two) and had his soul taken away. His party went to Stygia to recover it. There, they negotiated a contract with the devil who took the soul to recover an item he needed to overthrow Levistus. So they attempted to take on this lower devils home. They fight some but manage to come face to face with the lady (devil) of the castle. They negotiate with some REALLY high persuasion rolls that maybe they could take a fake item back and thwart the first devils plans. She thinks this is a great idea but requires a 1000gp gem and mortal blood. The warlock volunteered and too 10d10 damage of bloodletting for the ceremony to craft the fake. She was left with 2 hp.
They return to the first devils lair with the fake. He is convinced it is the real one, party because they had a set of keys from the female devils lair. He handed over the soul and the party has recovered their friend@
I will say I was amazed and delighted for such an interesting twist to a sidequest.

Cool!
Just be careful next time, a player losing their soul should not happen easily.
BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!
