So basically what I want to do for a quest in my campaign is have a piece of pop culture from this/our world basically get into the hands of someone in our campaign world (typical magic medieval world) and turned into a religion.
The original idea was have a sailor moon manga get left in a small town and it becomes like a holy book to them (cus the town would have never seen something like it before) and then theres a whole church etc worshipping sailor moon as like some ancient saviour etc
But I'm not as into sailor moon or manga as my PCs and I'm struggling to read it, so I'm trying to brain storm other things where this could work.
It would have to be something like a book so medieval people wouldn't need a tv or laptop to read.
How about an actual dungeon and dragons book like the monster manual, or a campaign book. It could be some kind of strange text possessing strange values of legendary beasts like tarrasques. A campaign could be like a prophecy that people believe was handed down from gods, and they're waiting for the events.
Tayn of Darkwood. Lvl 10 human Life Cleric of Lathander. Retired.
Ikram Sahir ibn Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad, Second Son of the House of Ra'ad, Defender of the Burning Sands. Lvl 9 Brass Dragonborn Sorcerer + Greater Fire Elemental Devil.
Viktor Gavriil. Lvl 20 White Dragonborn Grave Cleric, of Kurgan the God of Death.
A multi-level marketing scheme manual. Imagine a bunch of cultists worshipping plastic storage boxes or home-delivered cosmetics.
Science fiction , which the cultists think is actually historical documents. Perhaps temples are shaped like blue boxes and priests wear long scarves and a floppy hat?
You know, the more I think about it, the more I want to introduce mid-century tv shows. Imagine a D&D world with the Church of Fonzie…

A business franchise manual. Or two of them, perhaps leading to an epic showdown between the Kings and the MacDonalds.
