I’m a new DM and fairly new player. I’m trying to make sense on how source book purchasing works in D&D beyond so I can optimize where I put my money.
First question is what are the best source books to get to make the best subclasses and the like available to my players?
Second question is when you purchase the sourcebook in Beyond do you automatically get all the content Integrated into my account or do I have to buy all the additional options with the source book? For example I want to get Xanathar’s Guide. But to get access to all the 30+ subclasses and 50+ spells do I have to buy those in addition to the main source book?
What are other DMs strategies with getting the most bang for your buck while utilizing the d&d beyond platform?
Okay follow up question on this one. As a D&D Beyond Master Subscriber, when I make a campaign and allow my players to claim their characters that I've pre-designed through my account, do they get access to all my purchased source material?

You as DM, will create a campaign here in DnD Beyond. As part of the campaign interface, you can select which materials you own, that you can share with your players... IF you have a master subscription. Without that, you can't share things.

What part is illegal? If as a DM with a Master sub you click to enable sharing with your players?
No, I was referring to the post - that has now been deleted - where a user was posting links to sites illegally offering sourcebooks for free.

Ah ok I missed that. And yeah I agree that stuff shouldn’t be shared on here 1) anyone can google and find that stuff and 2) it can’t be imported into beyond so that defeats the whole theme of the thread talking about beyond utilization lol

For context, in hardback, I have the 3 core (PHB, DMG, and MM) + XGTE (plus a few campaign books).
As a player, I bought the digital version of XTGE and PHB as those are, IMO, the best two for players and there's just so much content in them its easier than creating your own homebrews in the cases where you want something out of the book that you don't have on DDB. I feel like I definitely got my money's worth out of the digital versions of those books on top of the physical books. For XTGE, its not just the races, spells, there's some great rules in there that you only get if you buy the whole digital book.
Once i started DM'ing, i bought the digital version of the MM because its just WAY easier to carry around your phone than one more large book. Loading encounters with the monsters you'll encounter ahead of the session is a great easy-access feature. Again, I feel like I got my money's worth out of owning the digital + physical.
So that's 3 full DDB digital books that I thought were well worth it. (and I feel like the digital version of XTGE is better value than the actual book)
As a player, I've since purchased pieces of many other books to open classes and races on my phone for character sheets.
For campaign books - As a DM, I've found I really need the physical book to really run the adventure (I'm old school and just find studying and reviewing before a session to be easier with a real book). I have bought a couple full digital versions of the adventure books but, looking back, I'd say they weren't worth it for me. If anything, I'll be unlocking just the digital version of the monsters when I run new books.
I haven't bought the digital version of the DMG, keep debating, but so far I can't seem to see its value when i have the book with me. in summary here's what i've found for me:
PHB & MM: physical and digital books worth it
DMG: physical book worth it
XTGE: digital book worth it
Adventure books: physical book worth it, digital monsters worth it
Everything else: pieces of digital books worth it.
this excludes other worlds like ebberon and ravnica as i just haven't played there. If I were, i think i'd really want the physical books.

Also, I would have a look at some official adventures as well (we can discuss some good for new DMs if you wish). Even before buying DMG and XGE, tbh. They provide a solid base for you to start your adventures, since you will see how they provide enough information related to the environment that the adventure is being run in, possible encounters, how to adjust them, roleplaying NPCs and etc.
But again, it is just my point of view. I really enjoying DMing premade official adventures so I thought it would be nice to share. :)

If you buy the sourcebook, you get everything in it.
Best bang-for-buck is PHB, DMG, MM, and XGTE, I think.

What’s that mean lol?
When you make a campaign, there is an option to enable sharing unlocked dndbeyond content if someone has the master tier.
You're aware they're illegal, right?
