My wife and I are thinking of picking up some fabric and whatnot from a craft store to make our own dice bags. Has anyone on here done this themselves, and if so do you have any tips to share?
I've created a couple of bags, myself. One of which was made with cheap craft felt, however I've followed an unconventional process to create a bag that stays upright while open. That's my favorite form of bag, and I can't stand a bag that lays on its side. And-oh! Upon a quick Google search it seems that an Etsy shop has picked up the same pattern I copied from the now-discontinued Lotus Dice Bags! This is the exact pattern I've used in the past! I may have to commission a bag from this seller soon... But if you still want the joy of creating something for yourself, which I understand entirely, you can take a look at those pictures for an idea of the pattern. I can tell you that it's made from two perfect squares of fabric, among other things. I made mine using 10-inch squares, though if I were to create a new one, I'd likely use a square foot.

That is a gorgeous bag. :O
I don't craft them personally, but I can say now that owning a bag that stands up on its own is so much more preferable to the Crown Royal-style bags I used to use.

Right? I couldn't help myself and already messaged her about a particular black and gold version, perhaps a commission as well! Here's a couple of pictures of my original out of production Lotus Dice Bag, for those interested: Clicky!
I have a friend who used (and probably still uses) an actual Crown Royal bag for his dice. I personally find it too spacious, and of course the fact that it doesn't stand up...
I crafted dice bags for my party as a Christmas gift. The traditional ones are so easy to make and if you have any experience with a sewing machine take about 20 minutes to do start to finish. The trick to the cinch knot is to use two lengths of rope. Each one does a full 360 degree loop with both ends of the rope coming out the same side of the bag with the other cords ends coming out the opposite side.
Michaels has some really cool prints that are the perfect size, I made my daughters pink zebra print with sparkly cord and my son a "dragon hide" pattern with leather cord. Having read the previous comment though I am thinking to possibly try starting with a square base and sewing around and then up the seam. Might add about 5 to 10 minutes but then it would stand like a sac. Hmmm. I think I found my next project

I have one of these from Third Die, but I don't own nearly enough dice to fill it (yet), so I'll be getting a smaller version of it this Saturday at my game store. I have a Crown Royal-style bag that I used to use, but it doesn't fit the amount of dice I have anymore ^^;

I've actually considered getting one of those before, but I've just been so hung up on these lotus bags that I refrained and went on to craft my own (which I gave away). Although, if I were to make or commission a new one, it would definitely be moderately Zelda-themed and have a rupee on the front. I can't help it. Gotta have that Adult Wallet look, though with a yellow rupee. I have a not-so-mild obsession with the color yellow.
Never made one myself, but I use a bento box I got online. It's set up into a bunch of different sized sections and has multiple layers. Its super convenient to roll in so dice don't go everywhere. Plus its a lunch box so its super portable. I picked up the idea online and its super convenient I keep all my stuff in there.

Actually just made one for my wife a couple months ago. Found the pattern online I'll have to look for it. I'm suppose to be making one for myself also just haven't got around to do it yet. But remember to pin it together first to make sure that all your dice can fit in it. She owes tons of dice and I had to modify the pattern to make it a little taller. Good luck with the project!

If your looking for dice towers I'd recommend this guy here [linked]. I've had mine two years and not a scratch on it, very nice !
OHHH. I forgot I made a video sometime back when I want to share some of my much loved D&D things. I've linked it to the time I talk about the dice bag [youtube]
ah, you young whipper snappers. We used to use crown royal bags. I remember coming across a CR bag full of other CR bags, thrown out by some alcoholic at the county dump. Took them home and washed them (like 4 times, jsut in case). Used those things for years.
Seriously, though, a sturdy fabric that closes well with drawstring is the key.
I have so many dice now, I use tackle boxes and large crafting boxes to hold and sort them. I got a bigger box recently and have an urge to buy more dice. Vicious cycle.

As someone who has a lot of dice bags, you are going to want a material that will stay shut when you pull the cord.
Hell yeah I am going to Polymorph the boss into a Rabbit. I have always wanted a being a pure evil stuffed into a ball of fluff.
I purchased my dice bag on Etsy. Its pretty darn cool !
Hopefully this gives you guys some inspiration. The bag itself is done by Crotchet (I believe) and scales inserted between turns.

I didn't precisely sew mine, but I did crochet one out of nylon string. It's cute. Took a couple days but it's held up beautifully for years!
Quick question whats a dice tower and would recommend one? : /
