I'm theory crafting the best healer for the tier 1 D&D Open next year. The D&D Open is scored by fewest rests, least magic items, and efficiency of completing objectives. Last year I went blaster warlock (and we did very well), but this year I want to maximize chances for success. I've been thinking V. Human - Life Cleric 2/Moon Druid 2 with the healer feat. This would net me lots of healing with the healer's kit and uber goodberry. It would also allow me to meaningfully participate in combat through wildshape.
That might be the best I can come up with, but I think better could exist. I keep thinking that there might be some way to incorporate two levels of warlock for great Eldritch blast and short rest recharge healing.
Let me know what you guys think.
Edit: Healing Spirit is super OP. That might change the optimal build to 3 Druid/1 Life Cleric. Does Healing Spirit also heal when it passes through the square of another player?

From the spell description:
Until the spell ends, whenever you or a creature you can see moves into the spirit’s space for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, you can cause the spirit to restore 1d6 hit points to that creature (no action required).
This would lead me to believe that only the second half (starting their turn near or in the spirit's space) would trigger since they did not move into its space (it moved into theirs).

Oh good. I'm glad it's just super OP and not super duper OP.
I was reading through more of Xanathar's and it seems like both circle of dreams and circle of the shepard would allow for more healing, but I think the circle of the moon is better overall.
For focusing on tier 1, I think the v. human is better than the aasimar. If I was not thinking of multiclassing then you might be right, but v. human is the only way to get the healer feat at level 1. The healer feat is much more net healing per rest than the aasimar healing hands.
As someone who has a Mom Moon Druid in a game, I'd stay away from them if you want to be the healer.
The two abilities are diametrically opposed. The Moon Druid works really well as a bruiser who is rarely out of WildShaped. (My character often shifts BEFORE a Short Rest, and stays in Form as long as possible.)
You're not going to be positioned well for healing if you're on the front lines taking the hits. After combat you don't have opposable thumbs to use the healer's kit.
Circle of the land gets you another casting off 1st lvl spells (Natural Recovery)
*Edited as per pwhimp, I guess you could say my druid gets all "momma bear" when the party is attacked! ;P
You make a lot of good points about the moon druid. I think they are just very overpowered at low levels, but you are definitely right that many of their abilities don't mesh well with healing.
That extra spell slot from Circle of the Land looks really good. With three levels of druid the Natural Recovery gives you an extra 2nd level spell slot on a short rest (or two 1st level slots). Compared with that, I don't think the XGtE circles can compete (at least at tier 1). Balm of the Summer Court gives some added flexibility, but I think that overall the extra spell slots would be better than the pool of 3d6 healing (which doesn't benefit from the life cleric's Disciple of Life feature). Some of the Circle of the Shepard spirits are cool and give added flexibility, but I think that flexibility can also be attained through more spell casting.
Hey! I just rolled one up. Paladin 1/Warlock 2 variant Human. Healer Feat. AC 19 and decent melee. Agonizing Blast and Devil's Sight. Great Old One Telepathy. Should be fun.

Good build, I was looking at the race, I think the aasimar would be better for healing

Makes sense. I’ll have to look at some of that stuff closer when I make some future classes.

Lol. I totally want to play a Mom druid.

Just a quick update: the 2018 D&D Open uses pregen characters so I think this thread is moot unless there is some rebuild option.
