That's why I believe it was miscommunication. I certainly think the DM could have communicated things better. His character is certainly able to be played in other games, provided everything was logged properly; in the first post he even says the character is still alive. I'd have handled the situation the way you suggested. Just say, look, everyone else died. They had to start over, so we're not able to complete that adventure because there's no party to complete it with. We've all got to start over from level 1.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Yes, the DM basically said that My character is not dead and can be played in any OTHER AL game. Just not his. And said maybe someday they will go on and adventure to rescue him. Then placed him in the dead characters tab roll20. And none of the new lvl1 characters have any reason to go after him because they do not kbow him. He even said that. I understand going to an alt character to play for awhile. No prob. The point is. He removed my character from the game, essentially kidnapped him...even said that......., when I was absent....and my character slept through the whole thing?? Come on...
I had no problem with creating a new character to play while the others caught up....hell I now have 4 characters in this campaign because of it. I am very reasonable....the point of my post was...how can my character sleep through a battle on our ship...and then sleep through being carted away...it was my understanding that if I'm not there...my character is not there....the DM had played other characters that way...we used the ship to keep multipke characters on...for that matter I had ANOTHER low lvl character that I had created and kept on the ship for TPK situations( to go back and play with new characters)...and he slept through the whole thing as well...not killed...not rob'd ...like he was'nt even there...which is the way , in my understanding of AL rules, is the way an absent players character is supposed to be treated. AND, HAS been treated in the past....just now ALL OF A SUDDEN, When I am Absent, this just happens..."Sorry...just the way it is"....That is not how I understood it to work when I signed up. And, from reading alot of the replies the thread has started...I was right.
As I have posted before (somewhere) in this thread. I have 4 characters now from rerolling lvl's to keep it balanced for the DM's sake. I am very reasonable. But, to return from an absence and be told that my character was kidnapped while he slept...just...carted away...like a piece of lumber..when other players characters were around...on the same small ship...and left untouched...with no option to defend himself...that makes sense? But, the players who were there all got killed...except for 1...who was "enthralled" by the vampire....idk...it all just sounded shaddy to me to have my character blocked from a game just to make it easier to deal with....when I have consistently played alts to make things balanced. It's not like my character walked through and wreaked everything that was thrown at him and was OP......
Apologies for the multiple posts. I thought I was replying to individual posts that I had read to answer specific questions people had asked. Again, I appreciate everyones input on this. Helps me to understand what has happened and whether or not I should just move on to another table. Thsnk you all.
I have 4 characters as a result of making alts to deal with TPK's I am very reasonable and made those characters to help keep things balanced while I waited for the others to catch back up. In fact I had one of those alts on board theship that was attacked and it was untouched...as was another players who was absent...just the players who were there were killed...except for 1 who was "enthralled" by the vampire. And my lvl 9 was carted away like lumber...with no reason as to how he would have slept through all of that.
Yes, but there has to be people your level. If there's only one table running, everyone TPKs and has to start at level 1, while the OP's level 8 missed out on the death...the OP has no choice but to play a new level 1 character. There are no level 8s for him to play with that night.
That is all good and true, but, as far as we know, the DM did an extremely poor job in conveying the reason why it was so. This guy just showed up the week after and got told his character was no longer playable because of in-game events pertaining his character, not because the whole party TPK'd and he had to roll a new one to continue playing with them.
I might be wrong, but a better option would have been to let the player know the party TPK'd in his absence and to think of a new character, since everyone had to start back from scratch. The resultis the same, indeed, but the means and the way to get there are as important as the result, imho.
I have 4 characters as a result of my flexible nature and willingness and ability to roll up a new character for the sake of keeping things balanced for the group. In fact one of those characters was on the ship. And left untouched. He said, " I rolled a random event for this vampire to come after the party from a past event and because I was on his hit list and I was absent he kidnapped your character never to been seen again in my campaign" ...My character had NO chance to defend himself...fight for his freedom...just..."POOF" "Welcome back, here is a blank character sheet, your lvl 9 monk you have been playing for a year is gone"
To be honest what is stopping you from calling BS, saying no, and keeping your AL character prior to this incident? It's not as if the DM can access a database of AL characters and delete him. You could simply call out the rubbish, and hang onto your level 9 monk.

But the level 8 character wasn't included in the TPK so it is still alive for a later level 8 appropriate event?
He then said, Your character is not dead.... You just cannot play him in my campaign any more.
So yeah, the character is still alive. I'd just take my logsheets and play him in another game. There must be more DMs running games on roll20 for AL.

I feel like everyone's in agreement that the character is alive, and that the most productive thing to do is to find a tier-appropriate game for the monk/lock.
With that said, I want to address the issue of how this information was presented. The more I read from what you write, the more I think it's likely that both you and the DM are having trouble with bleed. The part that really catches my attention is this:
I now have 4 characters in this campaign because of it.
The way AL treats absent player characters is that there should be minimal effort spent on creating a narrative for players who are absent sessions. To a great extent, where they are doesn't matter. When your party travels without you, how you catch up to them, or what things you did during that time period, doesn't matter. You make it up for yourself, as the player. And the DM is not really under any obligation to help you with that, although it sounds like he did, to his own detriment.
The fact that you're getting so caught up in what happened in-character during non-game time is an indication of bleed-out. The cliff notes summary of bleed-out is that in-character thinking can affect out-of-character thinking, meaning that the character can affect you as the player. If you want a really in-depth article, take a look here: https://nordiclarp.org/2015/03/02/bleed-the-spillover-between-player-and-character/
In some cases, it's natural and normal. In this case, I think you are overly focused on in-character explanations for an event that should have been handled completely out-of-character. To repeat an earlier point, it does not matter what happened to your character in the session that you didn't play. If you are unhappy with what the DM said, it is fully within your power to change it. But you should know that it is very unlikely that in-character changes to the events of that session will have any effect on out-of-character facts.
It's likely that the DM is also experiencing negative effects of bleed-out. Although without talking to him directly, it's speculation on my part. The point is, there is entirely too much emphasis being placed on the in-character elements of this story. On both sides. This issue is an entirely out-of-character issue, governed by the rules regarding AL table management.
