Are Dragonlance characters legal for AL play? I know the guidelines haven’t been updated yet. But in the past I’ve seen announcements that new books are legal online long before the guidelines got updated.
This document covers participation in D&D Adventurers League adventures set in the Forgotten Realms, which includes all Adventurers League adventures except those from Eberron: Oracle of War (EB series) and Ravenloft: Mist Hunters (RMH series). Those storylines have their own rules for character creation and advancement.
My DM is running Dragonlance using AL rules. My question is can I play an evil aligned black robe wizard?
Unless rules have changed no evil alignments in AL.

The way I read this Dragonlance is in a different setting. The player character options in the campaign clearly offer an option for black robe wizards. Since the AL player’s guide has not been updated for this campaign I think it would be up to the DM to decide.
To the best of my knowledge, as of Dec 17, 2022 - the Dragonlance hardcover is not listed as part of the Forgotten Realms campaign for AL play. It is an open question to the AL-Admin on Discord and WotC to clarify which campaign it will be in (if it will be included in one) and whether there will be an independent AL campaign or whether it will be included in one of the existing campaigns.
The ALDMG says to refer to the FR Adventure Index for approved content for the AL FR campaign. Dragonlance has not yet been listed in any of these documents.

Q4): Will Dragonlance be Adventurers League playable?
A): information to come. -----------------
So at the present time, Dragonlance is not legal for AL play in any campaign unfortunately.
Could players modify logs after the fact to make them conform to whatever AL campaign DL ends up in (assuming it ends up in one). Sure, AL is entirely based on the honor system but at the present time DL isn't AL legal content which was what the OP asked.
If you play DL and level up a character/acquire items, that character is not in an AL campaign and is not valid for AL play. The situation might change once DL has been assigned a campaign but you couldn't take a character that played DL to a convention at the present time since DL is currently no different than a home campaign for character play from an AL perspective.
Yes yawn. Thanks David. How many months does it take to roll out the official AL rules for books lately? Two or three months? People if you travel with your DL PC just tell the dm. I done got tired of waiting on the official approval. I do think spell jammer academy was out before the Spelljammer AL rules.

Not trying to be contrary, but how would AL be compatible prior to the official release? They do not get any sort of secret inside info as far as I know.

I use the most current rules. Generally speaking AL will say a magic item x is story item which means it is not treated as treasure but stays will the group.

Wow. That is pretty impolite. The OP asked if DL characters are legal for AL play. The answer is clearly NO, not yet, possibly never, depends on what campaign it is in. So, yawn if you like, I was just answering the question asked no matter what you may or may not choose to do at your table.
If you take the character to a AL table at a convention and tell the DM that you've played DL and there is no guidance for DL then the DM will just nope the character because it isn't legal for AL play because DL is not part of any AL campaign at the moment.
Of course this will probably be sorted out at some point and it will be moot but at the moment it isn't. No one knows whether DL will have its own campaign like Eberron or Misthunters, whether it will be added to the FR like Spelljammer or whether it won't have one at all like Strixhaven etc.
Edit: Coincidentally, the ALPG was updated today (Dec 19) to cover DragonLance. DL is a separate campaign and characters from DragonLance are not playable in the Forgotton Realms, Eberron or Misthunter campaigns.
As of December 19 Dragonlance will be its own separate campaign effective January 1, 2023. Version 13 of the players guide and dm guide dropped today on the discord channel. And as DM at cons, unless something strikes me as off the wall, I am too busy to do an log sheet check. Most weird stuff I see at cons is people who have rolled stats instead of the standard array. I give them the array and have them fix while we are playing.
I agree with David42 on this one... Dragonlance, at this time, ISNOT legal for Adventurer's League play.
There are a few reasons for this...
The World of Krynn is not part of Faerûn (nor is it connected to Faerûn), and therefor is not part of the Forgotten Realms setting.
Because it is not part of the Forgotten Realms setting, this makes it not legal (at this time anyway) for Adventurer's League play.
Like Ebberon, the setting of Dragonlance is very specific, and therefor possesses its own set of rules which deviate from the AL Guidelines (such as the Kender, for example).
There is currently no way to travel from World of Krynn to Faerûn.

What is posted on the AL Discord is not official, per se. It is at best a preview or draft edition, and it is still subject to change.
What is on the Official AL Page Adventurers League | Organized Play | Dungeons & Dragons (wizards.com) is the official revision of Guidelines. Until it is published there, or WotC makes a ruling that what is on the Discord Channel is considered an official revision, it can only be considered a draft edition.

Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, this is not the case. The Discord content takes precedence over anything on the WotC website. The latest versions of documents are released on Discord because apparently the WotC IT department is incapable of updating the website in a timely manner.
There are some documents that have been pre-released for comments on Discord but there have been several essentially final documents released like the ALPG 13.0 and the Adaptation Guide for hardcovers that are currently in force for AL play. There are also official Q&A as well as clarifications on the D&D Beyond AL Discord channels that supercede previous guidance.
I finished my 5th session of DL. During Chapter 3 I did introduce Fire Eyes as most of the villains stay in the dark with no foreshadowing. I am treating GreenShield shield as a story award for the moment. And my players will be shopping for their 5th level magic items next session. Be wary of some of the wandering encounters during the missions section of Chapter 4.

Usually setting specific books are banned outside of those settings.
I am currently running it under the Current AL rules. All adventure books have been legal either as straight AL or Side campaign.
