I'm attending GaryCon, which will allow players to bring DDAL characters (level 9) to play at the official games. I have a bunch of service hours collected, but I've never used them before. I want to make a variant human warlock, and I'm sure I have the hours to level it up. Problem is, I've never claimed rewards before. I'm a forever-DM who DMs for kids a lot, and I don't normally get to play.
I would really appreciate any advice on how to claim legal rewards (especially if you have item suggestions with sources). I don't want to bring an accidentally-illegal character to an event, and I don't want to have to run a pre-made character, because I struggle to play characters I don't know really well. I am using a log, and I have the 50th anniversary rewards sheet. I just don't know how to find items that are legal.
Thanks in advance!

Howdy! I'm one of the AL DMs volunteering at GaryCon this year, and I appreciate you wanting to do your due diligence in preparing a character.
Claiming awards In general, when claiming a service award, it's usually enough to make a note on your character's logsheet noting you're using a service reward to get the item and (gold or downtime). It may be helpful to keep a separate log of events/sessions you've run to keep track of service rewards, so you'll know which events/sessions you've used on awards which require multiple sessions to earn (like the 20+ or 40+ hour awards).
Finding legal items The S50A service reward document outlines general requirements for choosing items,
You may choose any one specified magic item available in a currently playable D&D Adventurers League adventure (as listed in the D&D Adventures League Player's Guide or published on DMsGuild.com excluding unpublished author-only adventures, Official Support Kit epics, and limited events like Liars Night). You may not choose Fey Pacts, story items, problematic items, or the same item from the same source again this season.
For the most part, as long as the adventure is publicly available, then it's fair game for being claimed on a service award sheet. The document Metamongoose posted is an excellent starting point to find items from AL legal sources, but it's quite a bit out of date and doesn't have any data on items from more recently published books, if you were wanting something from Book of Many Things, Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, Tasha's, etc.
If you have specific items in mind, feel free to join the official D&D discord (https://dndbeyond.link/dnd_discord), pop down to the AL channels, and the helpful folks there can point you in the right direction for which adventures those items can be found in.
P.S. Also, note that for claiming service awards you can't use cases where the player gets to choose the reward for claiming service awards - they need to be specific items from specific modules. You are also not allowed to choose items that are the result of Fey Pacts in the Wild Beyond the Witchlight season DC adventures (these awarded some particularly powerful items in many cases and can't be chosen as service awards). This means that the above list is a good reference but you may need to check details in a module before claiming an item as a service award (the fey pact ones though are only the WBW-DC adventures).
Thanks so much for this. I ended up just using a level 9 character with no magic items beyond the level 5 one (as if I had claimed the items, but not assigned the rewards to the character I leveled up), and the DMs I played with were fine with that.

Thanks, that was helpful to see, even if it's out of date. Appreciated!

Yeah, it was the only one I could find. It seems like most of the people we were updating it kinda gave up on organized play stuff.
An much more current version that is still actively maintained is here:
