I have an Assimar Paladin whose at 2nd level. (Due to COVID-19) I haven't played much lately (and yes I know about online options, but that's hard in my particular situation). When I return to the table however I wanted to take the Oath of Redemption for my paladin's 3rd level. I'd been musing on that for a few days, and it only just registered to me that Aasimar + Oath of Redemption violates the PHB + 1 rule in DDAL. I have no other game options for 5e D&D at the moment ...... are there any specifics adventures or certs that I should try to seek out?
He's technically a noble from Waterdeep (in good standing with the Lords' Alliance), a follower of Lathandar, and is also Neutral Good. If not the Oath of Redemption, I'd likely take the Oath of Devotion.
(I'm also gunning to get this character to 5th level before the end of the current season -- so he can fly).
My understanding is that Volo's doesn't have to be your +1 for an Aasimar in season 9. I've been playing an Aasimar hexblade for some time this season.
Just to add some confirmation. Neither Tieflings nor Aasimar count against your +1 for Season 9 due to the Descent in to Avernus plot line.
In addition, your Aasimar has the option to replace their 3rd level feature (and I think the light cantrip) with functional wings at level 5 giving you a fly speed. The only constraint is that flying isn't possible in heavy armor. So you may want to consider your build stats in case you want to wear medium armor and be able to fly at level 5 :)

I didn't notice you could pick aasimar without VGtM being your +1. Now I wish I had done that instead (too late now, I'm level 10).
