I seem to remember reading somewhere that noted if a wizard was doing research, they could build a laboratory. It had costs noted for an alchemists lab, a magic circle, and other things needed for wizardly research. Would anyone recall if this existed for 5e?
As far as I can tell, a full cost write-up for such a thing has not been done for 5e. Chances are you'll just need to compile costs for alchemy tools, various books, and certain components, along with the cost of the workspace itself.

Sounds like something you would find in Matt Colvilles Strongholds and Followers book.
A nice read, but not canon. Good for a starting point as a DM though, IMO.
that is old school, first or second edition dmg. i remember it (barely).
Do you want to charge the player a flat fee? Make it a mini adventure/game? How much gold does the wizard have access to?
