So I have an idea for a campaign that will run along side a premade adventure...
It's based around a group of evil drow looking to find moradins Hammer and a group who protect the hammer trying to keep its location secret...
But I am trying to figure out, how would one destroy such a powerful artifact, in some lore it says the dwarfs were created by moradin using his hammer and powerful forge...
So I was think to wiled the hammer you need special gauntlets...but I need to figure out a way to destroy it...in case my PC'd decide that destroying it is the only option to save the day...
I have home-brewed a bit, that the head of the hammer creates life, but the base ends live, and the drow are looking bro use the base to end surface elf's of all kinds...a bit dark I know
Maybe do like the axe of the dwarfish lords and make you have to burn it where it was made.

"Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination"
This isn't exactly to the question, but why doesn't Moradin have his hammer anymore? It doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd lose and just, forget about. "Dang, I really liked that hammer. Well, off to Home Depot for a new one, I guess."
Actually, as I'm writing this, maybe that's the answer. They need to return it to Moradin. Not to destroy it, but to keep it safe and out of the drow hands. Still doesn't explain why he lost it in the first place. I don't picture him as absentminded.
My thinking was that that hammer is on safe keeping and it's location is protected by "Moradin's Hammers"...
I was thinking that the hammer never ascended with Moradin that the magic used to create the dwarfs required the hammer remain on the same plain as it's creation...
Don't know if you can tell...but this is my first foray into story writing...already plot holes
It's not a plot hole while you're still writing it. It's just a detail you have yet to describe.
I mean, you could just pretty easily decide that Moradin in your universe IS absentminded. He's always losing that dang hammer; he has a bit of a reputation for it.
Moradins Hammers protecting it can work (though you might want to workshop the name a bit). Likely the group was wiped out by the drow who took it. Or Moradin could have given it to a dwarven hero in a past age to do, something, and that dwarf was killed in an avalanche, so the hammer was not recoverable, and it's been waiting for someone to get it, and those pesky drow got there first. Also, the more I think about it, returning it is the better option (either to the hammers group or to Moradin himself). If I were Moradin, I'd be pissed if some group of mortals wrecked my favorite hammer. Then you also have a secondary side quest of figuring out how to return it. And some fundamentalist cleric of Moradin is going to want to take it from the party, so they can be the one to return the hammer. But will the party trust them and just hand it over? There's lots you can do with it if you keep it around. Destroying things is so, final.
Sorry should be "Hammers of Moradin"...they are an order of dwarven warrior-priests, dedicated to Moradin...well I believe they were in 2e...so my thing is...that they continued to exist but in secret(akin to knights Templar mythology)...
The destruction of the hammer, isn't something I'd want to happy. But if my party wanted to destroy bit, I'd like to be prepared for that
Frankly, Something like this is something that I wouldn't even plan for until the players decide they want to do it.
Not to say that you would be wasting your time preparing, but it is something that you could very easily plan an entire adventure around and it never comes up. You don't want to force your players into anything just because you've worked on it. How would your players know how to destroy the object anyway? They would need to find someone who would know and then convince that person to tell them. That gives you plenty of time to come up with something after you know it's something that they want to do.
