Hiya guys, I'm a first-time DM/assistant(?) DM and I'm trying to help create a relatively short campaign based on the play She Kills Monsters. If you don't know what the show is about, here's a synopsis:
A dramatic comedy about the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she comes to terms with the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When she finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she embarks on an adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. Throughout the play, Agnes learns of Tilly's queerness, the bullying she faced, as well as the mental struggles she endured. Tillius the Paladin's party includes Lilith Morningstar, who acts as the squad's muscle as well as Tillius' girlfriend, and Kaliope Darkwalker, who acts as the party's master tracker and is very analytical. The final part of the party is Orcus, who joins along on an obligation because he traded Tillius' soul for a pretty awesome TV/VCR combo (it's very 90s).
So, I play Lilith and as we near closer to opening night, my friends who play Kaliope and Lilith want to create a 3-person campaign to make more backstory for our characters. We're theater kids so obviously we're nerds but we're also a bunch of D&D players who want to enjoy a good 'ol backstory campaign! Problem #1 with this is, we're still finding the DM so I'm kinda filling in for now. Problemo #2, I have absolutely no clue how to write a campaign.
Thanks y'all and PM me with any long-winded questions, solutions, and ideas!
I’d say don’t try and write a campaign right off. Lost Mines of Phandelver is available for free on this website. It’s designed to help new players and DMs learn the ropes. Run that, it will gives you a sense of how they work. Then try your hand at it.
