I have a wizard in my party that has a noble-ish background and they possess a spellbook stolen from the Xanathar's library.
The wizard's backstory is that they want to steadily gain enough power to cripple Xanathar's influence while amassing their own. They group (level 5.6ish) has been very visible around the region and I feel it's time Xanathar's guild members started moving to get that spellbook back.
What are some good intro minions/members to start weaving into the main campaign going on now?
Well, there's always generic minions (thugs, goblins, etc), but if you want more Xanathar-themed enemies, there's specifically beholder themed enemies such as gazer, spectator, gauth, and death kiss (in order of increasing lethality), any of which can be combined with a few gas spores to make life more interesting.
In addition, Xanathar has a mind flayer minion (Nihiloor) who is breeding intellect devourers, so you can just send some people who are possessed by intellect devourers.
Given that Xanathar presumably knows that the PC is a wizard, there's also more specific anti-wizard nasties that you can throw in, such as gremishka.

Excellent! This is a great starting point for me. I appreciate it!
If you don't have it, Waterdeep Dragon Heist has information about Xanathar's operation and lair.
