How is this done? Are there 1e modules that have been adjusted for 5e? Thank you.
Broadly speaking, it involves adjusting the encounters and loot to be appropriate for the newer edition of the game, while leaving the base plot unchanged.
More specifically, I'm looking for a 5e of Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. I have the 1e version. Ghosts of Saltmarsh is actually what I'm looking for but I don't want to pay $29 for it. I could print the first two modules but it's a lot of paper. I'll try everyone's suggestions. Thanks to all :)

Thankfully most, if not all of the encounters use monsters that you can just plug in the 5e versions.

Drivethru RPG has a series "Classic Modules Today" that are conversion kits taking 1e to fit 5e play.

Goodman games has converted a few of the 1e classics.
Try googling the module and see if its already been done.

This is a relatively old document, Conversions to 5th Edition D&D, that WOTC posted on their site, but it may be something to check out. (https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/DnD_Conversions_1.0.pdf)
