Well, I originally posted asking for an owl miniature, but I would rather just buy a good amount of animal miniatures. Anyone know of a good zoo animal set or something like that that's intended for kids but make good D&D models? Wolf, ape, bear, falcon, rat, etc?
And there's always some plastic animals. You can probably find something like these are in a toy shelf at a grocery store or in a Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Gives you a small monkey and some other animals that are useful, especially for a druid using wildshape.
Check out your local "2-dollar store" or equivalent. Often they have bags of plastic animal toys that are the right scale for table-top gaming. Quality varies all over the place but so does the price.
If you have a higher budget, check out Schleich toys. I have looked at their dinosaur models for my Primeval Thule game. However, then I say "higher budget" I mean that it is cheaper for me to order Reaper Bones from another city and pay someone to paint them. :-)
If you're looking for animal miniatures that are a bit more unique and already fully painted, you might want to check out Camp Hollow. Their tiny figurines are originally designed as collectibles and jewelry, but I’ve used a few of them at my D&D table (an owl and a fox) and they worked beautifully as Wild Shape forms for my druid.
They’ve got a good variety of animals everything from bears and birds to more whimsical woodland creatures and the level of detail is honestly impressive. The scale might not be perfect for every campaign, but for character representation or a druid’s transformation, they definitely add a nice visual flair.
Also seconding what others said about plastic toy animals great in a pinch. But if you’re looking for something with more artistic charm or gift-worthy quality, Camp Hollow’s collection is worth a look.
Hope that helps, and good luck building out your menagerie!

I'm a big fan of reaper miniatures but they're all unpainted. Not sure if that's an issue or not for you.
