Hi there! So I am a new DM and will be running Waterdeep Dragon Heist. One of my characters is playing a human monk who is Shou. He really wants part of his backstory to include some sort of prophecy (the reason he is coming to Waterdeep). I am not really sure what prophecy I can give him that relates to Waterdeep Dragon Heist...I was thinking maybe something with Manshoon or The Cassalanters...but I don't know why a monk from so far away would be interested. Instead, I thought it could be cool to give him a prophecy that ties in to Storm King's Thunder. I am hoping to link the two adventures. Do you have any thoughts, ideas, or tips? I haven't even bought Storm King's Thunder yet...is this too crazy of an idea?
Have you checked the "Waterdeep: Dragon Heist DM's" Facebook group? I'm pretty sure i've seen a couple posts mentioning that was their intent as well. I'm not familiar with SKT, but in my opinion WD:DH is pretty stand alone and should work as a good jump off point for most campaigns.
Storm King's Thunder's first chapter is a short adventure for level 1 to about 4, so you could easily skip that in favor of doing Dragon Heist and then shift over to SKT at chapter 2, 3, or 4, depending on your needs.
As far as your monk player, it's possible that their prophecy might not have anything to do with Dragon Heist, but it's still what brought them to Waterdeep and they'll just get swept up in the heist while looking for signs of their prophecy or other adventurers to aid them.
