I'm looking for some advice, I'm new to DMing and trying to teach my step-son and step-daughter how to play. I've run a quick homebrew one-shot, but I really don't have the time to devote to creating a homebrew campaign. I already had the "Start Kit" from a few years back and have the DMG, PHB, MM, but as my stepdaughter is as Uni and the son would like to play more often I picked up the "Essentials Kit" for the sidekick rules.
Seeing that both sets are around Phandalin and DoIP has a few nice little side quests, I was thinking about combining the two campaigns to give them two main quests/big bads to go after.
Has anyone had any success or got any tips on how they combined the two for a new DM?
It wouldn't be that difficult to combine. Just have the quest board from DoIP and it's associated quests exist in Phandalin during LMoP. DoIP is written more like a series of random quests than a single narrative anyway. You'll have to get creative with some of the NPCs, though, since some of them are written to act differently in the different stories. The Townmaster, for example, is written to hide out in the Town Hall all the time in DoIP.
You could even play it like one of the Black Spider's plans is to enslave or ally himself with the white dragon in order to destroy the adventurers or the town.

I am not sure if this is helpful, but you may want to take a look at https://www.dmsguild.com/
If you check in the 5E, Adventures section you might find suitable follow up adventures that fit your requirements.
