We had this come up in our campaign tonight. There was some confusion about the use of the BLINK spell. We had a shuttle under attack by another ship. (Yes it's a sci-fi campaign) inside the shuttle was the caster and two other people. The caster wanted to use the Blink spell to transport the shuttle and its occupants to the etheral plane to escape the attacking ship. Now the wording of the spell does not mention if you can take anyone with you to the etheral plane or not. It just says "you" in the description. The question was raised, if the caster could take the entire shuttle with her into the plane. Is this possible or not. The DM ruled that she could this time, but if she finds out otherwise, she will change the rulling next session.
Oh and she wants to know, is there a spell that would allow a caster to do such a thing and take other people or objects with her into the etheral plane as a means of escape?
You've read it correctly - only the caster vanishes from the plane you're on, and into the ethereal plane. You take only what you have with you - not other people, not the 'room' you're in. Assuming you roll above 11 on each turn, to everyone else, you simply 'blink' in and out of existence for a minute. To the caster, everything else 'blinks' in and out of shades of grey and etherealness for a minute.
If you wanted to take yourself, and your party, somewhere else on this plane of existence, consider Teleport.
The spell description (in this case and in general) means exactly what it says. In this case it says you, so it means you. Only you. Only the caster can benefit from going to the ethereal plane. They can only bring with them the items they are carrying. no other creatures. no other equipment. If you could take other things with you, it would say so. So, no, by RAW, they could not bring the ship. As for something to take everyone there, I guess there’s plane shift. It specifically says up to 8 willing creatures who link hands. In this case, that would not include the space ship. Only the creatures. there’s also an upcast etherealness which would allow multiple creatures to go go ethereal.
Neither lets you bring the ship.
Gate would let you create a portal you could potentially fly the ship through, but it’s only up to a 20’ diameter, so I don’t know if your ship would fit. Could be some other spells I’m forgetting. But you’ll note these are level 7 and 9 spells. going to another plane is hard.
yeah blink is meant for self because it's kinda overpowered with taking other objects. Maybe you could make a certain weight limit that they can blink with them.

Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime. Oh, and it would be nice if you gave him a fishing rod.
Yeah, most of the spells have limits, however, this is a home brew campaign, and the DM has had to modify some of the spells to occomodate ships since D&D was never written to include such things. I do agree though with the Blink thing myself, I will pass your information along to the DM, I'm sure she will reverse her ruling on the matter. Of course the action has already become part of the plot, but in the future I don't think she will allow it. I feel that some kind of portal should be used for the purpose that the caster used blink for. We already have a ship that is able to create portals to Temporal Space, so something like that should not be too difficult to come up with. Like I said, the campaign is home brew and the 5e system had to be modified a bit while still keeping the rules in tact. Our DM is very experienced with this as she has done it in several games and everything worked out great. The players are actually liking the idea and are having some fun with it.
Since this already occurred, I would say the caster tapped into some "latent ability" in a time of great need, to save the party. The DM could make this a side storyline that leads to the character learning an ability that actually performs this function. Done and done.
Sounds like you need soem sort of "Jump Engine" for the ship. Have a magical device that allows you to jump into ethereal or astral space (think warhammer 40k, Babylon 5 and Star Wars jumping into abother dimension to travel faster), have it function like a planeshift spell x2 per long rest, once to jump you into ethereal or astral space the other to jump you out.

I would rule that there was something special about that particular shuttle to let it happen, not the caster.
And it has been 'used up'.

Yeah, the DM has decided to use some spells from the Time Travel handbook to allow it to happen.
