I have a cool race, and It's pretty powerful. but I think it's too powerful.
My character has animal features. Any racial trait ideas that could help me balance the power of the race (and maybe make the DM's job a bit more interesting?)
Would just like to add that if you would want to use my race, Just say so and I'll make it public (It will be called Anixian, though I don't think a lot of people will care.)
The most I can come up with is darkvision, advantage or proficiency in perception, and the ability to speak to animals. What exactly are you thinking of?
I have all of that actually, what I need is cons...
Cons focused balancing is not really the way 5e works. Sunlight sensitivity maybe? But I think even that is being phased out.
Probably the best way to balance it is to take away or tone down some of the features you gave it. What all can it do?
Sunlight sensitivety is really restrictive for a PC though, but yeah, I can't come up with much either.
Maybe they choose from a variety of animals which one they have the most features from, and the flaw is related to that animal? Such as, maybe a crocodile focused character has a lower walking speed or maybe a negative dex modifier? Doing that would take a lot of work though.

HERE.Thanks, I'll see what I can do. I'm fairly new to this all.
Can you fully list off what traits you already have written? That way it would be easier to give advice.
Also, can you give a brief description about who the race is, their culture, etc.
My only good homebrews: Races, Subclasses.
An aspiring DM and Homebrewer. Ask me if you need anything.
A link to the race may help in this I am not sure what I can be said if I don't know what I am getting myself into.
