A little over a year ago I made a Detective Class for a friend's campaign. I got to test alot of stuff from it, but I would like to work towards balancing and improving aspects of it. If you would like to take a glance and give constructive feedback on what you like or think needs improvement, I would appreciate it. http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/Bk7PLmFYiz
It's not bad, but with Xanathar's Guide to Everything it's really redundant with the Inquisitive Rogue. Speaking of which, as a rule of thumb you shouldn't create a new class if you can make your concept work as a subclass of an existing class.
I see what you are saying with the Inquisitive rogue. But again, I did make it before that came out. Also, I designed mine with the idea of utility outside of combat. I'll also keep your suggestion with subclasses in kind, but I do enjoy sometimes throwing myself into homebrew projects like this.
