I am in the process of creating a world for a homebrew campaign. And during the creation of a few races, I realised, that I am severely lacking a "shaman" class or more like an elemental cleric. I was romancing with the idea of creating something myself, but with my rookie understanding of 5e system, I was afraid of making it out of balance.
So here I am, hoping someone has played with or has some experience regarding such flavoured class or subclass.
From what I've seen so far, there is some potential in flavouring the Warlock into having an Archelemental Patron. Cleric could be given an Elemental Domain, but it does not fully fit fhe idea with all the divine stuff. Blood Hunter is somewhat similar to an Enhancement Shaman from WoW and it remains a possibility in case I don't find anything more fitting. Druid can possibly match, although there are some features of the class that I don't find fitting.
The flavour that I am looking for is a full caster that wields the raw powers of the elements. Can perhaps imbue her weapons with them somehow, but it's not necessary.
Does anyone know of a homebrew that's somewhat relevant in terms of power to the official classes?
I know its been a couple weeks since you posted this, so if you found your answer already then you can disregard this message haha. Otherwise, I haven't seen any homebrew content specifically related to an elementalist, but if you would like I could certainly try to make one!
For now I am romancing with making something myself, but I mostly lack the knowledge of game balance. Might limit it to NPC only, although that would be kinda lame. From the RAW 5e, the most fitting would be actually Clerics, Druids and Warlocks. Each fits the role of a shaman if fluffed properly. I might build upon those classes or try to make something myself. We will see.
Still I consider the question as open, if anyone has any input, personal experience or ideas, I am all ears and eyes.

Out of curiosity, why not just Druid? They can summon elementals, the druid has access to things like Flame Sword spells, etc. Druids in d&d also have the shaman-flavor of dealing with local nature spirits.

Because Druids connect to the powers of nature, spirits and animals. Yes they have some elemental powers, but it always seemed to me like it's the minority of their capabilities.
I am looking for someone that would connect to the raw, chaotic nature of the elements themselves. The primordials from the very beginning of creation.
Forge Domain Cleric with some tweaks could possibly be turned into something interesting and fitting.
If you want an elementalist who is basically a Warlock with an elemental prince as a patron, I'd just reskin the Fiend for each element. Redo the expanded spell list for each with element-appropriate spells (the basic Fiend should be find for fire; maybe consider giving the summon elemental [fire elemental only] in place of one of the fifth level spells). Change "hurl through hell" to "hurl through plane of [element]" and change the damage type from psychic to an appropriate elemental damage.
Also, if you want an ancestor worshiping type shaman, I tried my hand at it earlier:

The easiest way to do that would be to take a Circle of the Shepard Druid.
It was a while, but I am still checking it from time to time :P
The best I found so far are one that is a Cleric Domain, which is very flavourful:

The other is a full on homebrew based of WarkoWa mechanics:

Have you considered a Way of the Four Elements Monk? Granted, it's not a "pure" caster... but then again, does it have to be?
