semi-amateur dm here! i just figured i'd share some fun little kobold themed weapons i made recently. these are all related and function as ammo for the first weapon. feel free to give criticism or make use of them if they catch your eye! i'll be likely to post more of my homebrew items in the future, as i've made way too many lmao
anyway here you go-
Boom ball thrower:
A crudely modified light crossbow, the string fitted with a small, hand woven basket, just the right size to hold a single boom ball
30/50ft
Used to extend the effective range of the kobold boom ball
If target is hit directly, 1d4 bludgeoning damage, bleed on crit (stacks with bomb bleed)
Due to its shoddy construction, the weapon is liable to fall apart on a critical failure, dropping the ball 5ft from the user
Can be repaired with a successful dc 16 int check. Dc increases by 2 on every successive failure. Kobolds have proficiency with this check
Kobold boom ball:
A small, unglazed ceramic pot, roughly sphere shaped and sealed with a waxed cork. A short fuse pokes out through the cork. The pot is stuffed full of gunpowder and other crude explosives
while this item can be used as a standalone weapon, it is intended for use as ammo for the boom ball thrower
15ft+str mod (rounded up) range
10ft explosion radius
2d6 fire and 1d6 slashing damage
Dex save (dc 14), on failure, inflict bleed (1d4) for two rounds. On success, half damage and no bleed
Crystal spikeball
A jagged ball of frillite crystal, roughly the size of a baseball. Alternative ammo for the boom ball thrower
2d6P
On hit, forces a con save (dc 16). On failure, the target takes an additional 1d4Poi damage and is afflicted with crystal rot
On crit, the ball shatters into an explosion of razor sharp crystal shards, dealing 1d6S to all creatures within 5ft of the target
On miss, roll a d6. On a 5-6, the ball shatters anyway, dealing 1d4S to all within 5ft of where it landed
Scrap spikeball:
A small iron ball set with jagged spikes, apparently made from scrap metal from various sources
Alternative ammo for the boom ball thrower
3d6B/P
On hit, forces a con save (dc 18). On failure, the target is inflicted with bleed (1d6) until the end of their next turn
Burny ball:
A small, unglazed ceramic pot, roughly sphere shaped and sealed with a waxed cork; A crude, cartoony painting of a fire is painted on the side of the pot with orange and yellow paint. The pot is full to the cork with oil or another flammable liquid
Alternative ammo for the boom ball thrower
1d4B
On hit, the target is covered in the flammable oils within. The next time they take fire damage, they will be ignited, taking 1d6F at the beginning of their turn for two rounds
The oil remains on the target for three rounds or until washed off
and that's all :3 sorry if it's a bit wordy or hard to understand, i can attempt to answer any questions anyone may have. as i said, feel free to give criticism and/or use these items if you want!
This boom ball thrower weapon and its many alternative forms of ammunition could probably draw more people to play as kobolds if it was added officially.
You did a great job making it!

Why am I writing this? Likes idea of a class for alchemy (I do not count artificer).
that was kinda my goal, to give kobolds a little more interest and lean into their craftiness. maybe these would make combat against kobold npcs a little more interesting lol
