Exact formatting and setup for DNDB integration still a bit messy. My intention was to create a flavorful representation of the Dragonfly as a bipedal playable race.
It has some strong upsides, and a few detrimental downsides to hopefully balance it out. While I don't want to to be overpowered, I wanted to make sure it was interesting with RP potential, non-munchkin options, and as a reasonable contender for a choice among the usual munchkin options.
1) Almost all "Alienlike" D&D creatures dont have features that give them disadvantage like Fleshwarp, which I guarantee is much more freaky then your dragonflies, (no offence) I have a theory that this is due to the fact that weird "Alienlike" creatures in D&D are normal, and humans are actually the most Alienlike in this game as they are they odd one out.
2) Bite attacks dont normally scale with level, same with unarmed strikes, they just give a flat extra 1d6 like Lizardfolk, and you can label the bite as just an unarmed strike.
3) And you could make the Excellent eyes just whenever they are within 5 ft of a source of bright light. (Ex. Not 15 ft within a torch, but holding it.)

1. When we talk about D&D, as a playerbase, the assumption is that 99.99% of it is about the prime material realm(s), were human, elves, gnomes, dwarves, halfings, orcs, goblins, etc... are 'normal.' And sure, there's alien ish things, and the Far Realms, and demons, dragons, devils etc.... There are still ALIEN things that the average person probably doesn't understand. So, "Alienish" is in relation to common knowledge of the people that inhabit the land the player (playing the Odonatan) would be in. Now It could also be just "Differently Wired Physiology" or "Deviance to Magical Healing," or something else. But I think Alienlike fits best. these are UNCOMMON, if not rare. Most people probably have never heard about them - even the well learned.
2. This does. Dragonflies have their bite. It's fearsome. But I also look at it like this, how often will the bite come up? Theorycrafting - Odonatans are not suited to Str builds. They are going to be more rangey. The bite is cool, probably a fine backup when disarmed/out of spells/options entirely.
3. 5ft is so close that it seems meaningless to include it as a trait. I thought about 20ft, then 10, then split the difference to 15. And its supposed to be just against sudden and intense flares of light. Not a torch they themselves are holding, or even someone lighting a lantern. its specific, if I need to write it more specifically I will do so.
Awesome! Glad you have your sights on a goal you like, thats always great to have.
Especially when you have reason behind it
