Hello, our DM is good with our group crafting but does not want to have to keep track of the hours/time. He is a new DM and is creating a really cool campaign based loosely off the tyranny of dragon's book. I am guessing that down time will be few and far between. Could anyone help us come up with something not game breaking to replace the time aspect? The only thing that I could think of so far was to before the end of each day roll a d8 to see how much time I would was able to put towards crafting, something like that. Or after combat double the cr of whatever we are fighting and use the "parts" of the monster as days towards crafting? I am also kind of new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe give the crafting from Bastions a spin - without the physical structure? Once a week "take a Bastion Turn" and produce things via the Craft order.
Are you using the crafting rules from Xanathar’s? If so, why don’t you track it? My players asked about learning a new language, and I told them go ahead, but I, the DM, didn’t want to deal with the bookkeeping. So when they have a day of downtime, they record it themselves. Eventually they’ll pick up the language proficiency. For me it was just about not wanting to deal with tracking it for them.
We were looking at using the 2024 guide as a basis. I guess I took his message of "I don't really want to track it" from him as meaning please come up with a different way of tracking instead of days. I will am about to ask him now about it. TY guys
