My group and I have come across zombie like creatures that after we killed them, one of the heads was decapitated but still alive. I'm wanting to create something that can enable it to fly on its own, (similar to deadpool zombie head) i know it can't attack but can do recon amd distraction for me. However I'm not sure if this is something our artificer can create given the materials in our 5th edition campaign. Any help would be appreciated.
My DM is allowing it but only if I can find the mechanics for it to work
Not entirely sure what that means. There are no existing official rules for specifically turning an enemy's severed head into a pet/familiar, so it would have to either be something completely homebrewed, or a reflavoring of something that exists (such as the Artificer's Homunculus Servant, as I mentioned above).

This sounds like a question for your DM.
If I were DMing, I would probably allow an Artificer to incorporate that into a Homunculus Servant because it sounds fun.
