The main issue I had was that I had chosen a feature type "Replacement", and apparently it should instead be "Granted". Not exactly intuitive, but apparently that's necessary. Also the "Is Called Out" box needs to be checked, to make sure it shows up in the character builder.
Also I think I might have made a mistake or two with the spell itself, not sure; I used the FAQ advice and it's working now, so I'm leaving the past in the past.
===== Original Question is below this line =====
Hey all, I'm running a character and my GM and I decided to make a little tweak to better suit her. I thought it should be pretty simple within DnD Beyond, but so far I cannot make it work:
The idea is: she's an Abyssal Tiefling, but was adopted and raised by a family of Rock Gnomes. So all I want to do is: - remove the the Tiefling trait "Otherworldly Presence". (which provides the Thaumaturgy cantrip) - instead, use a portion of the gnome's "Gnomish Lineage" trait -- specifically, from the Rock Gnome traits, take the Mending cantrip.
So far with my new homebrew species option, I was able to make a character that indeed doesn't not have "Otherworldly Presence" listed in her species traits, and Thaumaturgy no longer shows up in her spells. But Mending is not showing up either, and I really cannot tell why.
I'd be open to any suggestions, all I want is this simple tweak to be part of the character. In theory I could also just ignore what the sheet says, and remember not to use Thaumaturgy and use Mending instead, but I'd really like it to be implemented correctly. Any help?
P.S. more info if it helps. How I made my attempt: - the species is simply named "Tiefling, Gnome-Raised" (https://www.dndbeyond.com/species-options/983091-tiefling-gnome-raised) - At the first step of species homebrew, I chose "is variant", so that all of the Tiefling traits would be there by default. - I added a species trait, with feature type = replacement, and chose "replace base species trait" to be "Otherworldly Presence", and required character level 1. - I then selected "Add a Spell"; I chose Mending, and CHA as the ability mod. I set "Counts as Known Spell" and "Always Prepared" both to yes, and "available at character level" to 1. - I left the rest of the options blank (maybe one of them shouldn't be?? But I struggle to know which)
Update: I think it's working now. I took a deeper dive into @IamSposta's Homebrewer's How-To FAQ -- thank you for that!!
The sections that helped me are #5.1 and #14 of the Homebrew Subclasses & Races Species FAQ
