I am attempting to create a subclass, and I am adding extra features outside of the normal levels to function as extra core class features. I am *aware* I can't publish that, and I'm not trying to. I want to use this for a private game, but the option isn't showing itself. Funny enough, if I assign the subclass THEN add the extra features, it updates the subclass and retains function, but I'm not allowed to assign it to a character when the features are already there.
Is there something I'm missing? Or is it just bugged.
It's tough to say for sure without being able to see it, but by far the most common cause of a homebrew subclass not showing up is selecting the wrong version of the associated class (i.e., 5e/2014 vs. 5.5e/2024). A homebrew subclass can only be associated with one or the other, not both, and if you select the other one for your character, you won't be able to select that subclass.
If that's not the issue, can you be more specific about what feature(s) you're trying to add at what levels, and how you have them set up? Since you can't publish it, the next best thing would be posting screenshots of how it looks in the homebrew editor.
Its 2024, a subclass for 2024, without the extra features I was able to add it to a character, once I readded the extra features it did update the subclass for that character successfully, but I wasn't able to then assign the subclass to a separate character. I'm creating a modified version of the Magic Stealer from the UA, here are the screenshots.
The first thing I notice is that you've set the features that are outside the normal subclass progression as the "Additional" feature type. You probably don't want this, and want to set them to Granted instead.
I wouldn't think that would cause this problem, but it's worth trying.
I'll try it, tho on another subclass I made I had tried doing it as 'Granted', it didn't work, so on that one I just swapped the levels to match rogue features with a note saying 'YOU DON'T GET THIS UNTIL X LEVEL, BUG MADE ME ADD IT SOONER' xD. Was hoping making it an optional 'Additional' feature would dance around it.
Well, ok, this is weird. I tested it again, made a brand new character, leveled it up to 3, and it let me assign this subclass. I then enabled optional features, and was able to then add the new features... I'm really not sure why it chose to work this time, it'd been defying me for awhile now and I finally got frustrated enough to ask xD
