Yo, so I'm trying to make a racial unarmed weapon for a homebrew race as an action but I need Finesse for it and the modifier doesn't seem to add anything to it and I don't have an option when creating the action itself. Basically I'm making a Medusa Homebrew and want Snake Hair as a weapon attack that can be used with both Strength and Dexterity stats while also allowing for different damage types, Finesse seems like the best way to go. Below is a picture of my set up which is under the Racial Traits options. For some reason the modifier doesn't add Finesse to the Action, does anyone know how I can make it work properly?
an attack that is defined via ACTIONS needs to have the ability bonus used for that attack defined as part of the action itself. In your case, the "Snake Hair" action would have to select either DEX or STR as the relevant ability.
This fits with the way that official races work, that Wizards of the Coast have published - any natural attacks are usually just defined as a replacement for unarmed attacks.
I'm actually a little surprised that the Weapon Property modifier was able to be selected for a racial feat, as it should only be selectable for a magic item that has a weapon as its base type. That modifier won't apply to the action and is likely to cause errors on the character sheet.
As an example, here is how the Tabaxi claws are set-up:
I see, that's currently how I have it set up but wanted a more natural way to go about it. Currently I have it split between two types that can be chosen from as options (Strength for non-poisonous and Dexterity for poisonous). Thanks for the reply and the explanation as to why it isn't possible.
