Is it possible to create a feat, item, or something else that changes your primary ability score? For example, let's say my campaign allows warlocks to choose between making pacts based on legalistic language or by impressing/cozying up to their patron, with the former using Intelligence instead of Charisma for all things warlocky (spell DCs, spell attacks, and all Charisma-based invocations). I get that I can't make that addition to the actual warlock class, but is there any way I can "cheat" it in by making it an item or a feat I can add to the PC?
There is a bit of a cheat that works with Warlocks, and other classes that pick their subclass at level 1.
Make a copy of the subclass that the player wants (example: Archfey patron) and set the spellcasting ability on the first page of the subclass creator to "Intelligence"! It does actually work. I have a homebrew pact magic class that uses Intelligence and I've sort of forced it to work as a Warlock subclass, and it uses Intelligence.
The only issue is that the Charisma based bonuses from Invocations will not automatically swap, so you may need to add additional invocation options to the subclass that change the bonus from Charisma to Intelligence if they choose one of those invocations.
