I am trying to create a "Nodachi" for a character in game. This will be the equivalent to a great sword, but it will be a finesse weapon. I tried to make a great sword and alter it to use Dex modifier in stead of Str, but I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated.
It's probably easier to use a shortsword as the base weapon then change the damage to match the greatsword. Less meta data tags to change that way.
Do you really want a Light weapon that does 2d6 and can be used by medium and small characters? No, it's probably better/easier to add Finesse to a greatsword.

Adding finesse to the great sword is what I want to do. My question is how do I make that happen? I cannot seem to make the change to the great sword stats.
I figured a modifier is what I was going to have to do, but I couldn't make it work. At least now I know that other folks can't do it either. Maybe they will add this feature soon so we can check it out. Kind of hinders home Rew content if you can't fully homebrew. Thanks for the insight Stormknight.
With a few exceptions, like the Sun Blade which is a magic weapon and therefore breaks rules, most modifiers in a martial weapon costs a damage die. IF you assume 1d8 is the "standard".
Battleaxe, Longsword, Warhammer, and Rapier are all 1d8 weapons with a single modifier (Versatile or Finesse respectively)
The Scimitar and Shortsword gain a 2nd positive modifier (Light) a negative modifier losing a damage die (1d6)
Halberd and Pike gain a 2 positive modifiers (Reach and 1d10 damage) while gaining 2 negative modifiers (Heavy, Two-Handed).
The Whip gains a 2nd modifier (Reach) and loses 2 damage dice (1d4)
Flail, Morningstar, and Warpick are just subpar. They have 1d8 damage without a modifier. Trident is also terrible as it's a Martial Weapon but just a Spear...
That aside I'm getting off point.
I think just adding Finesse to a Greatsword is a bad idea... it just makes the Nodachi the equal to and better then a Greatsword in every respect. There is no reason to ever wield a Greatsword in your world.
I'd recommend having the Nodachi lose a damage die to gain Finesse.

You can't do it currently - I expect you will at a point in the future, as it's needed to make the Sun Blade work (longsword with finessese).
What you're after is adding a MODIFIER with a MODIFIER TYPE of WEAPON PROPERTY.

Just noting that this functionality has now been added.

Nodachi: 1d10 slashing, Heavy, Two-handed, Finesse
This puts it in line with the polearms, but trades Reach for Finesse.
