I've been using/working on some homebrew rules for a while now. I've been keeping an eye on the extended spell lists feature for a while, hoping that it would accomplish what I want, but now that it's here, I'm not sure if it does.
My goal, in short, is to replace each caster's spell list with a choice of two spell lists, specific to that class, and preferably chosen upon character creation. Does anyone know if this is currently possible? It seems like adding spells has become much easier, but removing spells is a lot harder. Is it possible to remove all the spells a class is normally able to cast, so they only gain the spells added by a race/background/feat/subclass or whatever?
Obviously it's possible to just provide lists to players and tell them "only pick spells from this list" or whatever, but if possible I'd love to be able to limit them within character creation itself so it's easy for them to look over their options while character-building.
What you want is not possible. A class spell list cannot be replaced or removed. You can add spells to it or let the class have access to more spell lists or specific spells, but that is all.

Gotcha... that's what I figured. Oh well. It does say "class feature variants" are on the roadmap for this quarter, so maybe that will do it? Spellcasting is a class feature, so it's possible that we'll get the ability to remove/replace them with homebrew when that update comes.
