"Well, I'd like to make a bit more progress before we return. Bit of a pain coming all the way out here just for a short peek, no? I suggest that we, as a group, rest up and then investigate that passageway we saw. I'd personally not want to go down that hole, but we were only sent to deal with the nothics. But if you believe heading back is preferable, I'll acquiesce- you're the senior adventurers, after all."
"a few nothics were what we were sent bout, but this....I say we stay topside tonight, careful watch, whatever's down there could come out, and we need to know what it is."
"I can agree to that, let's see what we can find above ground around here. That library seemed to be quite large, maybe there are other ways in ... or out. I'll go see if I can find anything interesting, does anyone want to join me? We should however take care to not draw too much attention I'd rather not be seen by...additional problems. Maybe we can venture further into the library tomorrow, although I'd like to not take unescessary risks. "
Horatio shares a glance with his imp, then has it return to invisibility and nods to the party, signifying his agreement to remain in the area searching for other entrances on the surface, resolving to push again into the library room the following day.
Your group rests up for another day, enjoying some rations and keeping watch for any creatures coming up from the hole, though you see nothing. Occasionally throughout the night, you are woken by howls, hisses and growls echoing out from below, but nothing else bothers you. In the morning, you once again prepare for the day and delve down into the library, and at the bottom of the ladder the lamp lies unlit but you also notice the warp in reality that you all noticed as you ran yesterday. The library lies eerily silent, given the noises you heard just the day before and throughout the evening.
"Shh, Toadsi, let's try not to draw anx attention this time."
Trinjia whispers, then sneaks over to that warping space looking for anything that would explain what it is and why it exists. If she cant see anything, she will move up to a distance of 10 feet, then stops, takes one of her hair pins and throw it into it to see what happens.
Trinjya looks through the warp, trying to figure out what or why it is there. There isn't any item producing the effect, but looking through it makes anything behind it look as good as new. No dust or damage. As you throw your hair pins through, they hit the books on the shelf behind the warp and fall to the floor, though you see no visible differences in the hair pins.
"Perhaps it is a literal window into the past - not something that will harm or directly help us, but a way to get a sense of what this place used to be like. Perhaps we could look through it towards that northern corner, where Gandalon took such a beating yesterday?"
(OOC - remember that a familiar is a magical entity, so not technically flesh.)
Gandalon moves across to the portal, looking at it cautiously, then jumps through and picks up the hair pins. Horatio then feels his friend's voice in his mind, "It's just a window. Nothing here. Just old books and that one's hair pins."
And as you move closer and around the warp, you see that it is fact just a window, a tear in reality, displaying what once was, but as thin as a sheet of paper. Looking at the warp from the side, the room looks just the same as you saw it yesterday. Looking north past the bookcase and its warp (southern most shelf on the right in the map), just north you see several chairs, a large statue against the wall, and more bookcases to the north of the statue.
"Gandalon, see if you can find other tears or windows around here - and, stay safe and quiet, mind you! Wouldn't want you taking another beating like last time!"
((I planed to have Trin ritualcast detect magic before entering again however, I forgott about it becaus we kind of jumped back into it. If you don't allow me to assume she had it running, she will cast it now.))
Is there anything Trin can pick up with detect magic? If not, she will sneak further up north, dismissing the warping window as a strange but unimportant curiosity. She'll keep to the eastern wall using the northern bookshelves as cover to not be seen by any creature, that might reside in the room to the north.

(OOC - you still have some hours of light to look around below. It's about midday, as you'd slept in the camp and ventured down at first light.)

"I'll follow. there may be something in here with answers. answers i seek now."

(OOC - what's the arcana check for? What are you trying to ascertain?)

(Trying to figure out what kind of magic could warp reality like that.)
"let's be careful. that could effect flesh differently than metal or wood."

Roll a perception check for Gandalon as he searches the library for more warps.
