Tug nods along with Wilfer's question and adds Everyone but me seems to knows a lot of things. I reckon I'm not the brightest turnip on the cart. No one has answered me really - when did Dron get to the top? "Of course we can mate" Sharvon says "wouldn't want to get you in trouble. But tell me first, he always so quick to turn away honest coin?" Sharvon produces several gold pieces and places them on the counter. Sharvon will try and guard his reaction to the gold. Does he show any interest?
"Years," Rixton says dryly to Tug. "More than a decade. Almost two. Next you're going to tell me you are new to town, fresh off the boat. Color me unimpressed. If you must know, I have been hired by Dron a few times but I owe him no allegiance. I say that frankly because I suspect neither of you do either, despite your strong ties to him." The half-elf nods towards Wilfer. "As for Meraldine Forsythe, she is my patron. I am something of an artist, a provocateur, am investigator of the unusual. That is not a professional known to be stable. But I do not think you are checking up for me on her behalf. So...that leaves me wondering who you represent. It is a tangle that requires unknotting."
Sharvon and Aravor:
The goliath frowns as he looks at the money. "He'll take your coin tomorrow," Ironwall says. "You don't really have anywhere else to spend it; not if you need smithing done."
The goliath does not look at the coin greedily or with anything other than a slight confusion.
Vin has seen enough. He moves away, ducking into shadows and moving back away from the house. He pauses by David and whispers in his direction. "Savra says clear out..." The halfling boy's voice is tiny and barely heard, but he makes sure David hears prior to moving away himself.
Getting as far away as possible, Vin will only duck into an alley, and change back to Savra, once he has made absolutely sure he has not been followed.
Wilfer smiles, "Something we have in common then, and interest in identifying our patron. Who would you guess would send strangers to you, late at night, to determine what kind of person you are, if not Dron or your patron?"

Tug and Wilfer:

Rixton Pendrift shakes his head. "I am loathe to admit it but I cannot determine your purpose. It is truly a mystery to me. You are not here for the mayor, nor for Lady Blackwright or Baron Jurst. You do not represent a guild. I would wager you two have never met before tonight, so I doubt it is a chance paranormal event. Besides, you definitely represent someone; someone who brought you together, a dockhand and a local hero. I simply do not have enough to piece together the puzzle. Perhaps you will put me out of my misery..."
Sharvon and Aravor:
The goliath scrunches his face into an expression of puzzlement. "He is just opposed to working all hours, I think. There is no smithy open after dark. Is what you require so urgent?"
No, not new in town Tug admits but a slow learner. I didn't used to pay attention proper, and it landed me in dutch. But you taught me somat just now anyways, he counts on his fingers before he says Probably wasn't Dron that swindled my Grandfather, just someone just like him, but no matter. What do you normally charge for a pickle that level of difficult?
He continues You concluded we just met and are repping someone. If we posit that you can see how we'd keep a touch of mystery. You also list a bunch of people we ain't repping, the mayor, Jurst, Blackwright, Dron, Forsythe. Not sure how you know, 'cause I'm not sure if I know all the interconnections. But positing that as well, you have anything in particular for or against any on that list, 'cause it is an interesting list

Aravor and Sharvon:
Insight(17): 13
"No," Ironwall says, his face turning darker, though not yet angry. "That doesn't make sense. No rumor is worth this trouble. What do you really want?"
Sharvon cannot tell if the goliath's face darkened in response to the mention of Dron or if it was being caught in a lie that did it.
Tug and Wilfer:
Rixton sits in silence for an uncomfortable amount of time in response to Tug's question. His eyes dart back and forth as if he is observing something that the pair of them cannot see. Eventually, he says, "I see. Very well. You may tell your sponsor that I think the mayor is a fool and a puppet. I wouldn't answer his summons if he gave them himself. Baron Jurst is a simpleton and prone to excess. I doubt he has had an original thought in his life and I consider him more of a waste of breath than the mayor. Lady Blackwright is...fine. She is from an old way of thinking and set in her ways. But she is harmless. She lacks any curiosity or drive but she does occasionally have a spark of thought between her ears. Curtis Dron is deceptive, ambitious, and threatening. But he is also predictable and entirely unoriginal. So, I see him as no danger to me. Nor do I owe him anything for predictable reasons. He is a significant player in Foxshadow but that says more about Foxshadow than it does about Curtis Dron.
"Meraldine Forsythe, as I have said, is my patron. I owe her my allegiance and my services whenever she asks. And I have accepted that bargain because she may be the only person in Foxshadow with half a wit. Her goals are noble, if naive. Her mind is sharp and she is quick with a clever observation, that is except for any about herself. Miss Forsythe lacks the self-awareness to turn her sharp mind inward and thus has made her share of personal mistakes. These have been hard lessons for her...but she has learned from them. That is more credit than I can give to most.
"So, you know my place. I am bought and paid for by Miss Forsythe. Ours is a typical patron-artist arrangement but one that leaves me with few demands save my own whims. The rest, I would shrug my shoulders at. Now it is your turn. With whom do you have an axe to grind? And who is gathering you to grind it? I have my wager and I will be disappointed if I am wrong. In you, that is, not in myself. There are few we have mentioned worth of grinding one's axe. But I am certain now that is your calling. I just have not pieced it all together yet."
Wilfer waits to hear any response to his associates remarks before nodding politely, "As for who we represent, well, there was a reason I was asking for your guess. As for our ax, for now, we're keeping it in our belt, but one day we may need to grind it. It has been a pleasure to make your acquaintance, perhaps we shall meet again soon."

(Cause we tied I am going to double down on the lie) "your right, I am sorry. We heard the don was planning on raceing that horse in a few days, so we thought maybe we" Sharvon looks around and lowers his voice, "we planed on buying you out of shoes, and keeping you busy on a some other job, so he would have to go to one with, Let us say not so high a reputation, maybe one that we could make sure made a mistake......" Sharvon let's his voice trail off.
Ironwall sighs and pushes the coins back over to the pair. "I'm sure the boss will be happy to sell you everything he has tomorrow," the goliath says. "Like you said, the race is in a couple of days."
The giant man does not seem angry as he lifts his white-hot iron from the coals and places it on the anvil with his tongs. He begins to pound on the iron with a hammer as he yells over the noise, "The boss will come out if I don't get back to it."
Tug and Wilfer:
Once the pair decide to leave, they may do so freely. The peculiar half-elf makes no objection to their not satisfying his curiosity.
Sharvon thanks him for his time. Then turns to leave the shop, unless Aravor has any ideas the goliath seems a bust, not into gold, or showing any sign that revenge against the don would be a good thing.
With Wilfer seeming to be done, Tug follows his lead to leave. He thanks Rixton for helping with his grandpa mystery, and promises to return if there are any other pickles to untangle.
Tug telepaths I guess we head back to the White Flamingo and compare notes? once they are away, and they do if agreed

Wilfer responds quietly as they head back, "Yes, I'd prefer not to make a snap judgement."
Slowly, two-by-two, Savra and David, Tug and Wilfer, and Sharvon and Aravor return to the White Flamingo. They are admitted to the VIP lounge immediately, where they are left to make any introductions and discuss their respective missions. The serving woman informs them that Garrol Vansic is on his way and will be arriving in the next 15 minutes.
David barley has time to register the halfling's word before he disappears into the crowed.
Heading away in the same general direction, David runs into Savra and remarks.
"Where'd you get off to? And that halfling, you have people working for you?"
David shakes his head, thinking about the kinds of people he has gotten involved with.
"Well we should head back and report, I think that street might have been where Dron lives. Might not be a good pick if he walks in those kinds of circles...or maybe the other way around. Could be an insider perhaps..."
David heads back to the White Flamingo with Savra.
"So you lot are joining in on our plot to stick it to Dron then? Nice to have you onboard, names David Gearlock."
David shakes the hand of anyone who will, before sitting down to wait for Vansic.
"So our target, for the position of our benefactors representative, ended up in Dron's neighbourhood. Possibly his very own house, but I'm not familiar with Dron's residence, so not confirmed. So could be a no-go maybe, or maybe an insider, dunno. How about you lot?"
