Ecko throws his shield up in time. The toad connects with a wet THUD. Ecko saves that sound for comedic effect later.
The shield rapidly expands into a set of whirring blades! He casts a look to Garmus, as if to say - 'Is it cool?' The expression turns to - 'why are you leaving?'

Locked in and completely focused on the scent of the undead lurking in the mansion, Ysabells commented, "The one I sensed is still here..." before leaving the room behind and heading towards the final door in the hallway; seemingly rushing despite her rather languid movements.
Smells of alcohol and brine permeate this room. Glass vessels large and small stand in rows on the floor and tables, ranging from one foot to six feet tall. Inside each vessel is the body of a creature floating in clear liquid. One four-foot-tall container is missing its lid and has no occupant. The collection includes a dead cockatrice, a dead flumph, a dead giant fire beetle, a small dead grell, a dead myconid sprout, a dead pseudodragon, four severed hands in the same jar that are still alive, and a slaad tadpole that’s still alive.
The entire container blows up in a large radiant explosion, getting fluid all over Eralynn. Again. She turns her head and spits, and sighs, like she just can't win.
Her change in demeanor suddenly vanishing with the hands demise, Ysabell turned towards the others and said, "Well now that that's accomplished and we've found what's left of Matreous, should we try to find our way out of here?"
Ecko casts nervous glances around the room. His specialty was more in the mechanical and arcane arts - biological manipulation left the Kenku slightly squeamish. He fidgets uncomfortably with his shield, fortunately managing to block most of the deluge of totting hand water tea.
"I didn't see anything with a stinger. Whatever killed Matreous is probably still here,"he nervously reminds everyone, inching towards the door. They didn't see anything. That means it can either turn invisible or hide in plain sight. Both of which Ecko points out and neither of which he wants to deal with. "We should take Matreous with us and whatever he found. I'm not sure if this mansion will collapse or not, but if a portal is open, let's leave while we can."
Raastin agrees. "Yes, maybe delivery of his body will get some reward." He shrugs if anyone looks at him to judge his words. "Well, he's not any good to anyone for anything else right now."

Garmus nods at Raastin. "It might at that, boy. Let's grab him and get outta here before we meet some other murderous beastie." He says, turning to head back the way they came.
As you all head back to the ground level, you see a large open portal that's, apparently, leading back to Matreous' room at Candlekeep. Once everyone is through, the portal slowly closes, but at the last moment, the cat you met earlier trots through, weaving happily through your legs.

It looks like you lost a friend, but made a new one! Who wants him?
You are all standing in Matreous' room where you started, presumably carrying his dead body.

Calmly picking up the cat, she held it out in front of her for a moment, staring directly into its eyes as she seemingly stared into the feline's soul, before smiling warmly and putting the cat into her small pack.
The cat happily stays in your pack. He or she is going to need a name. Back at Candlekeep, you are asked a number of questions regarding what happened regarding Fistandia and Matreous. They keep the book he was reading: The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces. Eralynn smiles and writes, Now that that's over, maybe we can look for drawing books?
Adventure Background:After our adventure in Fistandia's Mansion, we collectively decided to spend the night at Candlekeep at the House of Rest to...well, rest up. Frankly, the Candlekeep staff at the House said it was the least they could do for completing our "investigations" into whatever happened to Matreous. The funny thing was, they still thought we were investigators! Lewl!
Eralynn was excited about, finally, the prospect finding a book on art and drawing, she wouldn't "shut up" about it, nearly trailing a cloud of crayon bits conveying how estatic she was to learn more on her magical craft. But, the Gods of Fate had something else in store for us. As Eralynn was looking in the vast shelves of the Keep, she came across a book called Mazfroth’s Mighty Digressions.
It wasn't really the title, it was more the appearance of the book itself. Mazfroth’s Mighty Digressions was seven inches wide and nine inches tall. The brown leather cover was very worn from time and use. The name of the book and its author, Mazfroth Gethur, were elegantly written in cursive with black ink on the first page. As Eralynn flipped through it, the care put into the front page, however, did not apply to the rest of the book’s contents. Mazfroth’s handwriting was terribly messy and hasty, as if he couldn’t write down his thoughts fast enough. Furthermore, the book’s 151 pages don’t all match, indicating that the author kept adding more pages. The book’s stitching was extremely haphazard, looking like it could come undone at any moment.
She walked up to the group, who were becoming fast friends for sure, showing then. She made an emotional face to everyone. Look at this! Have you ever seen a book like this? What do you make of it?
Picking some non-existent lint from his beard, Garmus cocks an eyebrow at Eralynn. "The thing looks like it's about ta all apart as yer holdin' it, lass." He says as he gets up to take it from her before she drops the depilated thing.

The toad lunges at Ecko, turning into a small demonic toad! Eralynn startles, nearly dropping her sketchbook!

DC 10 Constitution saving throw or take 4 poison damage and become poisoned for 1 minute.
"There is something undead in the next room." she shared quietly.
"Because moving books weren't enough." Garmus grumbles as he follows Ysabell.

The Quasit blows up, getting some sort of organic fluid all over you and Eralynn. Gross!! She gags, wiping it off. You may now proceed.
(I'm assuming the undead was actually in M19)

Seeing the severed hands, she approached them first to see if they're the undead she sensed previously.

They certainly are. Gross! It seems like they're going to leap out at you if you get any closer.

Eralynn scribbles. I think by saying the word Liberty we opened a portal out of here. Too bad Matreous is dead. Perhaps we should head back upstairs?
