Pepin is fine to lead the way indeed; and is always happy to take the underwater route; but do we need to head the same way as we went the first time?

Sounds like you've ruled out the sewer passage and are in favor of either going by sea similar to last time or flying?
(Didn't we flood the sewers? And presumably the town guard destroyed the goblin tunnels? I'm happy whatever way we go. In this case, it's about the destination, not the journey. )

I presume it will be easier as we are going to the open countryside beyond the Goblin siege lines, instead of trying to infiltrate their lines like last time. Pepin, as our cartographer: Lead the way my friend!"
(Pepin takes the lead?) as you head off. Leaving the city poses no problem as you've done it before and the guards now accept the disguised goblin as part of your party. Like before it takes more than a day to reach the boat so you definitely have the benefits of a long rest. And you know where the boat is hidden so no need to search for it.
However, once you take the boat out into deeper waters someone will have to make a STR check or Water Vehicles check to keep the boat on course. DC 15.
