Take your time and let me know when you're ready which direction and if the party is splitting up. So far the North hallway has been scouted.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Pepin is fine with going up front, but is not the best scout. But I guess Sonic is our scout anyway.
"Shall we check out North while sonic scouts the other passages?"

Z could recall Irraxan with the usual pocket plane trick, if we need another scout. But I like the idea of having him keep an eye on Skrud and the Goblins for the moment, in case someone odd is going on with them. And it would allow Skrud to contact us if necessary

The hallway to the South is identical to the hallway to the North in that it is lined with shelves of books. Many of these books vary in size and shape, bindings and fonts, even languages that they are written in. At the end of the hallway is an alcove with a pedestal. Resting on the pedestal is an ornate bowl with a mix of animals and mythical creatures (satyrs, a minotaur or two, unicorns etc.) engraved all around it. There is a slightly discolored, brownish liquid in the bowl and a single white lotus flower floats on the surface.

Z ponders what they have found so far. "Hmm. So two hallways, or rather: Two libraries ... and at the end of each, an alcove which has a receptacle for something to be put into it. Perhaps I am jumping ahead, but could this be some sort of puzzle?" Z gets excited at this, and is eager to try the other two directions next.
(Just FYI: Z speaks only common and Draconic. And has no spells or other magical aides that would help with getting to grips with any of the books in their various languages)

The hallway to the East appears to be also lined with bookshelves but before Sonic can get to the end of the hallway the shelves on each side are beginning to topple inward (they start off slow but the more they tip the more their own momentum adds to the speed at which they are falling over.
You can have Sonic retreat before they collapse on him, or try to rush through and risk being trapped on the other side, or stay where he is and maybe be trapped somewhere in the middle of it all. Also, if you can think of other options you would like to have Sonic do feel free to post them, those were just the 3 immediate responses that occurred to me.

(just an idea: whether trapped in the middle or the far end, you can always dismiss your familiar to its pocket dimension (no range limit). It's only the reappearing that has to be within 30ft of you. So I wouldn't worry about Sonic getting trapped)
(understood: but I did describe the shelves were falling so there might be a chance he gets hit... maybe a DEX save to avoid if he's within harms way, and it's not possible to determine if staying or rushing forward will put him in harms way, retreating will put him back before the area with the bookshelves, or as I said if you can think of something else (I didn't want to pigeon hole your options down to just those 3.))

Sonic makes it safely through to the other side as you hear the crashing of the books and shelves from the hallway. He sees an identical pedestal to the others with a fist-sized ball of darkness floating 6 inches above the pedestal.

Zenodor: "While usually all books and knowledge are precious ... and just as a back-up option, you understand ... how easily do you think we can just set fire to the whole lot? A large fire could destroy anything that lives down here, or damage whatever it is that's useful to the Dragon, and it could be easier to find whatever we are looking for in the ashes and ruins rather than trying to dig through the books."
It's your guess the old dry books would go up like kindling. Sonic rushed through and is on the other side with the pedestal and hovering black orb. In between is the cave-in of bookshelves. You can still hear the rippling of pages echoing through the hallway.
Everyone make a Perception check please.

Tempe relays the information to the group then sends Sonic east.

Tempe thinks that there must be something important on the other side, so he gets Sonic to dash onwards. 13 Dex
