Taking a quick respite to catch your breath and plan your next move before moving on you are able to maintain or even increase your lead some.
Warning a city or large town will give them more time than they otherwise would of had and allow for some show of force, but the villages will have to be evacuated.
A few hours of travel brings you to the small village of Garrum which you estimate has maybe between 400 to 500 homes and other buildings and 800 to 900 citizens, probably closer to 900. No walls. When asked who's in charge the villagers direct you to the Reeves' residence, the largest building in town, which also serves as a town hall and gathering place for important events.
(Feel free to ask questions about the situation and plan/post accordingly.)

Hopefully this Christopher guy knows how many able-bodied militia members are in town so we can figure out the best course of action--that would be super!" says Randall.

"Seems there were many hundreds of them. We need to figure out what's behind this if we're going to stop that many Goblins."
"I am pretty sure a village like this has no chance against an army like that. We should tell Reeves to evacuate and ask which city we should go to to get up an army that will have a chance. So lets move to Reeves' place."
(What would be our best estimate of the numbers of goblins/riders/etc we saw?)

@Randall & Bow: Your best guesses at trying to determine the size of the goblin horde is as follows:
More than 100 archers. More than 500 worg-riders. More than 1,000 on foot.
But they were so disorganized, what with some switching between their weapons it's hard to be sure how many archers there actually were, and others mounting or dismounting the worgs their numbers might not be accurate either. The numbers might fluctuate a little between the type but the overall count will roughly be 1,600... or a little more (there could be scouts out that weren't counted).
@Eko: You could always say your present character went through some portal if you want to keep using them. Or you could make up another to use. Either way try to post at least once a day, some here post multiple times a day. It must be hard for you to follow the story from when you last posted (11 days between posts) which is why I suggested you read up. There were some pretty good times already (one of the fights was legendary epic... or close to that, lol) and well, you miss out on all that when you don't post for 11 days and especially go back and catch up from where you last posted. (This campaign is turning out better than I planned.)
@Petcan: You can determine that there are only 4 main roads that lead to the Reeves' residence and if someone barricaded those it might do something to slow them down a little bit. The goblin horde will probably waste time searching cellars and attics anyway before moving on, and that is only if they find the village of Garrum empty. Evacuation is the best bet since not all of the 900+ population can fight, some are old, some young, and most unskilled in how to use a weapon.

Bow will move to Reeves' Residents; rushing in to see him.
"I've got very important information for Mr. Reeves! A goblin army is on the march."
When letten in I will tell Reeves about the numbers etc.
"We saw an army about two days ago; it consisted of around 1500 goblins. There is no way this village can survive, so I urch you to evacuate fast. An please tell me what is the closest city that might have an army to stand up to these goblins? So my friends and I can rush to them and inform them about the approaching army. Btw, regarding that; would you by any chance have some horses for us to speed our travels?"

When you first meet the Reeve and warn him, he at first seems a little incredulous of what you're saying but with each time you repeat it you can see it dawning on his face. He suggests heading for the city of Laurentiis. It is the nearest city and also has walls, and a standing army. Plus, it's a port city if the horde proves too much for them but I don't really see that happening.
(I'm going to try to ask more what you want to do than dictate certain things, I just wanted to jump-start the beginning of the campaign. I'm always trying to improve as a DM and maybe another way is to flesh out some descriptions or encounters a bit more and tell a really good story. The story part is a mutual thing that we all can contribute to, I particularly like the roleplay between the characters that is starting to develop. Anyway back to the actual game.)

After delivering the purchased pig to Grim, Randall catches up to the rest of the party. Hearing the discussion, he suggests, “Let the mayor evacuate the town and head towards the coastal city of Laurentis. He can send ahead fast riders to warn them of the invaders so that their army can ride out to meet the goblins. I say we remain behind and harry the goblin army.”
Looking out upon the sleepy town, Randall says, “The more we can distract and delay the foes and whittle down their numbers, the more time we buy for the townsfolk to escape. Planting false leads, destroying their scouting parties, striking their main force in small forays when they are vulnerable, then retreating quickly before they can muster a large response. That is how we save the lives of the innocent.”

( oh ok my oc is actually paced off of two characters in the future so I don’t know what to and I want to stay)
Do we have time to try to booby trap the town or just barricade some to slow down the horde? Is that more costly than it’d help?
