 “Birdie” doesn’t know what kind of shield other than a buckler would be preferable to a door shield. (TBH, you only mentioned weapons and potions, so it was a shot in the dark that armor was available here.) As far as resistances on a shield or item, once again “Birdie” is just looking (shoring up saving throws is always good).
